I just re-upped my insurance on our cars and my wife asked what would happen if our tractor was stolen? Or burned down in one of our infamous grass fires? I guess I'd just cry... That horrible thought had never crossed my mind.

Progressive won't insure it, what do you guys use? If anything besides a big chain? Prices would be great info to have too, since we're scraping nickels together lately.

Muchas Gracias!

Check out the thread "The dealer let someone steal my tractor" for some insite into this. Myself, I have a landscape/equipment coverage policy which is 1700/year, and I'm not sure but I believe the equipment part of it is around 600.

I coundn't get fire/theft insurance without the liablillity. First they said they would and then the insurance backed out of it after a month. It was about close to 500$ for my tractor with the liability and 250$ without it.

You can get insurance through Case/New Holland Capital (CNH Capital Insurance Agency, Inc.) for tractors even if you don't finance through them. That's what I did - through my Case dealer.

As far as cost is concerned through CNH Capital Insurance, I insured a 2004 DX35 and FEL for $16,500 for an annual premium of $130.

Since I farm it is covered through the farm business insurance. Liablity is _needed_ these days, the rest is up to you.

Since it is an off-road, you would look to your homeowner's insurance to include a rider for it, as a basic possesion, not a licenced vehicle.

At least around here, different states get different rules & all.

Just last week I met with our Shelter Ins lady to discuss coverin my tractor/equipment. After talking to her, plus what I had seen on here, I think the best way to go is the Inland Marine policy. According to her it will cover me for accidents (like coming off the trailer), theft, fire etc anywhere in USA. She's putting the cost together but estimated betwee $200-$300 per year to cover $25,000 in equipment.

Check your homeowner's insurance. Mine states that it is covered if it is required for "normal maintenance" of the property.
