I am thinking of making a trailer with an axle that has hydraulic drum brakes on it (used to have surge brakes, but the coupler is trashed).
Would there be any reason I couldn't hook a hydraulic line from the tractor into the brake lines and use that to apply the brakes?
This would be for low speed use around the farm only and if it works, I might make the trailer so that you could set the brakes and then back up to dump.

What would you use to control the breaks? Existing DCV or some other valving?

I know companies make traler brake valves for Ag tractor use but have never paid any attention to how they operate.

I would use a hydraulic valve on the tractor.

How would you modulate the brakes? they would either be on or off unless you put a pressure control in line. CJ

I was thinking of a flow restrictor that restricts flow going in but not going out. That way they could slowly apply but quickly release.
