Tractor Brands Market Share

A quick search shows there are 2425 Deere dealers, 1100 Kubota dealers, and 450 Kioti dealers in the US.

LS claims 500, but that’s several years old.

Mahindra claims 790.

MF has 590.

TYM had 200 in 2009.

This doesn’t exactly project market share, but it does suggest health.

It also says Deere is strongest overall, with Kubota distant second, and the rest roughly equal , but combined stronger than Kubota.
I see you have MF 590.
I don’t know if that number includes AGCO dealers or not. That may increase that number of dealers considerably
AGCO is a huge company that includes Massey Ferguson, Fendt, Challenger and Valtra. Most of you may not recognize the last 3 on that list, but Fendt is growing exponentially in the US and recognized as one of the best farm tractors ever made.

I think that would be a simplistic view. Need a lot more information. Number of dealerships juxtaposed with length of time in the market, a little better. Change in dealership numbers over time...more helpful.

There are also a lot of questions like does United AG count as 1 dealership or many? How do you count dealerships that carry multiple brands? Where is the data for CaseIH and New Holland?

Sheer number of dealerships also doesn't account for target markets. Many of these brands are not targeting large AG work, so they would naturally have fewer dealerships.

Sometimes, companies have too many storefronts. This is an inefficient model and may suggest poor health rather than good health. Expanding too quickly can be problematic.

Good way to begin a deeper analysis, though.
Do a search and see what you come up with, rather than criticize what I found in a ten minute search.

Everyone has an opinion but no one wants to dig for facts.

Deere, at least, is dealer locations, not dealer principals.

Case, etc is 4900 worldwide, including Fiat. Didn’t find US only.

Seeing this thread going again, made me go look for the current market shares of my country.

So here is the data from January to August 2021. I also added the best model sold for each brand, which some may sound odd because for some reason they used the factory reference for homologation in the EU, instead of the actual model of the tractor.

Table legend:
Brand | Units 2021 | Units 202 | Variation | Market share 2021 | Market share 2020 | Total units | Best model sold | Units

Once they release the numbers for 2021 probably sometime in January or February 2022, I'll share the data for the entire 2021 year.

I have a question for the group:

Please state your reason for wanting to know market share figures?

Could it be for some if not most of you just want to justify your selection? As in to say "I purchased the number one selling brand in market share in America?" Or is there some more sinister underlying reason? :) There that should give some of your something to think about. As for the rest, well what can I say? :)

^^^^
For me it’s observation vs reality, not a purchase justification or ‘fan-boy’ approach.

And my curiosity is more on the pre-owned market. It seems that the Green and Orange paint definitely demand a premium in my area.

Small tractors or big tractors?
When you say red, you don’t have any Case-IH ?
They are huge all across the USA
Well, define "big." I'd say mostly CUTs and SCUTs, but also up to 100+hp. We have a Massey dealer here and they sell a lot of tractors up to triple digit hp models.

It is very rare for me to see Case-IH here. This is a list of dealers within 25 miles of my place:

Massey
Mahindra
John Deere
Kubota
LS

The Massey and Mahindra dealers are easily the bigger outfits with the most tractors to sell. The JD dealer is in the middle, as they typically never have the inventory or sales of the first two and the Kubota dealer is about on par with the JD one. The LS dealer is small, but seems to sell almost everything they get in.

CaseIH is more about BIG tractors. 200HP up to over 600HP. No offense to CT, but some of the ranches out west are bigger than the 400k acres of farmland in all of CT. The point being you would see a lot more IH red where farms are huge. To be fair, that may also be why JD is not as big a player there.

I’m sure that the market share of tractor brands varies considerably between classes of tractors.

They have popped up and gone under not too far from here. In other regions they may be thriving.
How is that happening? Were they dealers carrying another brand and switched or did they add those brands to an already existing brand? Or are you saying the whole dealership went belly up?

Can you provide reference for where you found this information?
