Tractor and Trailer Suggestion

I am looking to get into a new business involving transporting people with a trailer pulled by a tractor. I am wanting to transport approximately 40 people at a time in the trailer.

Does anyone have any suggestions of trailer size and tractor size for this sort of operation?

I have seen several kinds, one is built on a flatbed wagon frame and looks like this: Free Shuttle Rides or one that has a wheel on each side in back and two close together in the front (like a tricycle tractor but with all wheels the same size) they have these at Empire Farm Days and the haul quite a few people.

Whatever you go with I would make sure of three things:

That people cannot fall off
That the trailer has a backup connection to the tractor in case something brakes
That you have breakaway brakes in case the trailer comes loose

If I were building such a trailer, I would probably put a surge brake controller (with reverse lockout) on the tongue and wheel brakes on the rear or front and rear wheels to help stop the trailer.

What kind of terrain? Hilly? Bumpy? Muddy?

Thanks for all of the replies. What size tractor would I need to pull a trailer of that nature. 45 hp?

Bruce-The terrain will mainly be pavement with parts being muddy and bumpy.

Take a look at the Pioneer Farm Equipment wagons. These are the traditional wagons you see being drawn by horses. They also sell a drawbar for a tractor to replace the shafts or poles, and you can get just the running gear, in 1 ton, 3 ton, 6 ton, and 12 ton (as I recall). Lots of options.
