Towing with BX24/25

The difference between a pickup truck driving down the street and the BX is the truck probably (should) have insurance should something happen and it has (or should) be inspected for equipment and safety. The BX has not.

So if something happens with the BX towing people around who's pays after the lawsuits are finished.

UMMMM, he says he has insurance, and has made no claims yet.

I'm not saying what the OP is doing is wrong or right, thats up to him. His original post was meant to show how he mounted a hitch to his BX, nothing more or less.

I like your hitch :)

I would like to extend my apologies to the members here at TBN for getting involved with the safety police issues Vs commenting on the nice job the OP did on his hitch.

For low speed towing around a paved area, that should work fine IMO. I would hook up a brake controller to use the trailer brakes if I were towing the large trailer, but that is just me.

Nice hitch, Thanks for sharing! Best thing is that it does not interfere with the backhoe.

Darn shame that people can't simply appreciate other people's contributions without going all "holier than thou" ... :confused3:

I agree. Its probably ok for what he is doing, but it would be awesome to have a additional braking power on the train part for that what if scenerio just to ward off the declination of insurance payout/coverage. He probably would not have to convert all the train cars, but only on the last one hooked up (think like caboose). I wouldnt expect more then one weekend to get it hooked up and installed.
The BX doesnt really have brakes but relies on hydro reverse to stop and adding the electric brake controller in rear would make it a very pleasant stops once its adjusted right.

Nice hitch with an easy installation. I always see trailer hitches on the three point but never on the actual hitch. Great idea!

I had hoped to do something similar for my BX23... from what I can tell, the 23 just does not have the clearances of the later 24 and 25 models...

Thanks for all the comments. That's an old picture. I have upgraded my tie downs. The Craftsman GT5000 has very little engine brake on level ground and none down grade. That's why I bought the BX, the right tool for the right job. The BX stops any load I will pull just by letting off the forward pedal. It does work extremely well and the hills I mentioned aren't mountain passes, just grades. I didn't start out with a full load on a ski slope, I added weight over many rides to see what I felt comfortable with. There are anywhere from 10 to 16 wheels carrying this low speed train so the weight is well distributed and doesn't exceed wheel or trailer capacity. Have you ever seen the little 300 lb riding lawnmowers pulling 10 barrels of kids on casters for wheels at fairs. I weighed the BX with the train nose and it's over 2000 lbs. Which would you rather let your kids ride? A lot of times I'll have a trainload of grownups only. Kids at heart. I'd even let Rooster and his lawyer buddies ride.
