I kind of figured it was surge breaks but I was expecting it to look similar to what the Uhaul trailers look like. Which, the ones I've seen are very obvious that they are surge breaks.

Just fyi, you will be over your hitch limit without a weight distribution hitch. They make a system that works with surge brakes. I have the same truck and the weight won't be a problem.

Which is confirmed by the sticker on the underside of the hitch.

This makes no sense to me as the hitch and bolts connecting the hitch to the vehicle still have to support the trailer and the load on the trailer. If it can't, the hitch is going to fail no matter if you have a WD system or not. I'm sure my thought process is wrong though. I've been looking at WD systems that are compatible with surge brakes. I just don't know if one will get here before I leave. So I might have to have it shipped to ND.

You are correct, the hitch bolts do still support the tongue of the trailer. Without a WD setup, only the rearmost bolts support the entire weight as well as only the rear of the truck frame. With a WD setup, the spring bars torque the reciever and put load on the forward bolts as well. Not saying this is definitely the reason but all I can think of. Obviously the sticker is on the hitch so that makes me think that is what it is rating and not the truck. Having a WD hitch will make it safer since the front wheels of the truck will get some extra weight for braking and handling.

Put a Reese pro series WDH with 10K bars, a stabilizer if you have time to screw it to the trailer (they cost like $35) give it 10% tongue and you'll forget it's there after about a half hour. It'll remind you on stops and starts but otherwise the truck tows really well. ECO SCREW tows really nicely, low rpm, the tow-haul mode and integrated controller are really good.

Sunbelt's trailers use a pintle ring. Is there a weight distributing setup that will work with a pintle hitch?

For what it's worth, the white truck in the pic delivering the tractor is an F150 which much less towing capacity than yours.

Take it easy and you'll be fine. As mentioned, watch your speed and drive careful.

Probably depends on which one you go to. I rented a 10,000 lb trailer that had a 2-5/16 ball. Haven't seen a WD setup compatible with a pintle but then again haven't searched.

The dealers truck looks like a F-150. I think Ford only made a year or two of the light duty F-250 with that body style and that was around 1997-1998. I do not think they had crew cabs back then also. The light duty F-250 was rated to tow less than your F-150 anyways. If I remember right it could tow around 8,000 pounds. You should be fine with your truck. Just take your time
