Tough Winter on Deer

One of the coldest March's on record for this part of the country. Starting to take it's toll on the deer herd. Fed my small herd today - now numbering 15. The small fawns have it the toughest. The fawns are desperate and will come relatively close to feed. When I leave, the dominant adult deer put the run on them - guess it's survival of the fittest.
Attached picture is of twin fawns enjoying a corn treat to supplement their browse. Note the little guy on the right is a buck.

One more pic - part of my local herd. They like to come into the pine stand where the snow has melted. They watch my Yellow Lab and let it get within - 50' or so. A wolf pack in the area, so they are pretty alert to any type canine.
