Toro Z master Z253

I have a toro z master 253. It want start on its own. Ive teated all the safety switches the alternator and the rectifier. They test fine. If i try to start it it wont fire and run, but if i hook the charger to it it will fire and run. It has a new battery, starter and solenoid. If i ground the plug wire to the engine i dont get a spark, but if i hook the charger to it i get a weak spark but enough for it to fire and run. would that mean my coils are bad. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Jeff.

If it starts and runs, the coils must be OK. If you jump it at the battery cables and it starts, but won't start from the battery, it must be the battery or the battery connections at the the posts. ??

I've already replaced the battery, starter and solenoid. The only time i get fire through the spark plug wires is when it is hooked to the battery charger. otherwise there is no fire from the coil. Sounds weird but thats why I think its the coil.

You know I had a car once in the shop that would not start. Have you ever heard of an ST-125 spark tester? Anyway this car was fuel injected and had 3seperate coils( each coil fired two cylinders ) I had to put this spark tester in each coil wire to see if I was getting spark. Well when I did that to one of the coils the car would start and run.

Replaced that coil and it started and ran fine again.

I tested that coil according to the service manual and it tested OK by resistance. No one was ever able to explain to me why that coil caused that problem. So if you have another coil try it and see what happens.
