On a side note, noticed the lynch pins on your 3 ph arms. I lost one of those while working in brush and nearly had a broken casting as a result when brush hogging.
Because so seldom ever needing the arms removed, I replaced those lynch pins with bolts and lock nuts. Something to consider.

I took a look at the first new filter location pic you showed and it's definitely not there. I like your idea on the second pic you showed where it may be going into that housing.

Dumb question: Are these lines under pressure? Can I just pop that nut off? Or do I need to drain all the fluid first?

Not under pressure if the tractor engine is off. May be some leakage of fluid.

This kit in JD parts may be the filter/screen that takes the place of the straight tube crossing over (and may have something to do with the power beyond when adding rear attachments like a back hoe.

The pipe without the filter such as seems to be shown in your good pics, is likely key item #32 in this schematic from jd parts.

I wanted to provide an update on my tractor.
I attempted to locate an inline filter and couldn't find anything so I gave up and sent it back to the dealership.
They got back to me today, very literally a month later, and finally figured out what happened.
They too could not find any sort of filter anywhere on the tractor so the assumption was that it must be internal so they took the PTO apart. Once inside they found the screen, which had blown through the fitting and ended up inside. The good news is that it isn't the 1500.00 valve. They are still waiting on the part to replace the fitting, but they aren't sure yet how to prevent this from happening again.
