So I got a 1300-d that was having trouble starting, smoked and had a lot of smoke coming out crankcase vent.

I tore it down to this point, do yall see anything? Looks like head gasket is shot. How do I get the pistons out? Do I have to remove drive shaft to drop the oil pan? I want to check out the rings.

I have the 1300d also. I took the drive shaft out to have more room. it is only four bolts. I would clean every thing and go back with bearing, rings and lap the valves, new valve seals. Check the head to be flat. I changed the valve springs and valves as mine were pitted bad As far as I can tell the seats are not replaceable in the head. also but I don't think it was necessary to change the springs as the new springs were the same. I did have rings broke on one cyl. My pistons came right out with out removing the ridge. Its been 400 hours since I did it and still going strong. Great little tractor for what I do.

Looks like one of my pistons was broken. Head gasket was shot. I'll get, 2 pistons, rings, bearings, head gasket and valve cover gasket.

Thanks for the help!
