Top link tractor point (3 holes) best choice?

I have pondered this a bit. My kioti have 3 holes to adjust/move the base point of the top link (where it connects to the tractor not the implement). I have almost 100% used the bottom hole. I wondered what the other two are primarily used for? I watched a video once and it mentioned the top and second one were often used for ground tools like Plows.

So my question is when would I use the top one vs the second one for say my disc/plow/chisel plow?

Is it primarily to get the clearance for the tool to be clear of the ground? Or does serve a different purpose to get better traction/angle of attack on the tool being used?

Consult your manual. My manual suggest which hole to use for classes of implements...

I agree with Jeephead. My MF 451(52HP) operators manual says to never use the bottom link hole. For all practical purposes it disables the hyd draft overload function.
The center hole allows 3-pt equipment to lift a bit higher than the top hole.

A top link Keeps the attached implement raised and lowered in the same vertical plane. Depending on your demands, you can adjust the length of the top link to be level or tilted.

I understand now. Which is why I wasn't seeing any benefit of the draft control when plowing. I had the toplink in the bottom hole. Same as my tiller that I use 30% of the time, 60% for flail and 10% for plow or disc.

I need when plowing to use the top or mid hole for the toplink. I guess I wasn't ready to understand it when I read it several years ago.

Only think I have used the draft control for successfully was to stop the tiller/BH from bouncing/dropping down when on the road between plots.

So if I were to use the box blade, would the draft control help that at all? Yes equals top or middle toplink hole, no equals bottom hole.

Just saw a post "This guy made me feel a little better"

and helped make sense of the top link function when using a box blade. Not sure about draft controle with that though.

Gotta put back on my hyd top link now...

If you ever use a PHD, ALWAYS use the top hole. If not, the attaching area will SNAP off.

Perhaps but maybe not. My Ford has two positions. My top link is on the lowest to pick up an extra ~1 1/2" of cylinder movement because of the quick hitch. The position below that is a lock and below that is the pivot. I keep mine locked. I don't plow anymore and don't have a PHD. No need for Draft Control.

Draft control is for when using underground implements. Others use position control.

If I put the PHD in the top slot it drags the ground as I move around. I in the bottom hole it is just a few inches. I will test this out and invoke the draft control handle that often raises things up an extra couple of inches.
