I have just built my toothbar but I am having a very difficult time pinning on the teeth. The teeth and adapters dont seem to line up great and I just cant seem to get the pins in. I was just wondering if there is a trick to it, or is there a problem with the fit. It does seem that if they do go in it will be a real snug fit on them. I can take pictures if it will help.

I know that you already got them in, but if anyone else has the same problem, try putting the pins in the freezer overnight. I know that it sounds stupid, but the steel contracts just a little bit which is usually enough to get tight fitting parts together.

This is a project I will tackle soon also. Pics would be a great help. Who's teeth and shanks did you choose? How did you determine what size and what spacing to use? What part numbers and cost, if I may be so cheeky as to ask? Please forgive all the questions, I began investigating using the same Hensley teeth and shanks as my backhoe bucket but the cost seemed ridiculous so I moved on.
Thanks,
Martin

Had the same problem, had two slip in with effort the other three never made it, I was so annoyed I left them hanging the 3/16 out and never got back to it /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Antrim,
To answer some of your questions, I went with fabco teeth but I had to get them through Werk-Brau. I went with the 23 series Pin on teeth because I wanted the ability to change the teeth if worn. And they do have some preety cool tooth options! I wanted my teeth and adapters to be perfectly flush with the bottom of my cutting edge so I used an adapter that was made for that and does not have the hook for the cutting edge. I gound my 4x1/2" bar stock to match the angle of my cutting edge, drilled it and the cutting edge, Tapped the cutting edge, and bolted down with 5 Grade 8 bolts. The result was a perfect fit!!! As far as spacing went I have a 52" openning on my bucket so the spacing worked out very near 10" on center with 6 teeth. Just a note that I am also going to add a grapple so I wanted an even amount of teeth as I did not want to offset a center tooth. Pics will follow as soon as I get a chance, but I can tell you people are not lying when they tell you these things really help with digging.

total cost for teeth was $130 that is shipping and I have an extra adapter, 3 extra teeth and 6 extra pins. I wanted extra teeth and pins on hand incase one came off but after intallation I am quite sure that will not be a problem. So any one in western New york area interested in them I have a bit extra and it would allow you to test fit.

I can echo the comments.

Used fabco series 23 also.

Had to compress the pins with vice grips and pounded them in.
I doubt they will ever fall off.

As to digging, WOW! I was able to pry out rocks too big to fit my FEL bucket in mt driveway.
Matter of fact they were heavy enough to create the 'pucker syndrome' when the rear kinda left the ground.
I resorted to push/roll them aside.

Being spring thaw I wanted to get rid of the pesty frost heaved imbedded rocks.
The soil is a clay based subsoil that is hard as concrete when dry. In the present wet condition they came out easily, but otherwise it would have required a full sized backhoe at least.

Also tried some old stumps in the 6" variety. Piece of cake.

Loading full buckets of soil with imbedded stones was awsome.
Without teeth the cutting edge would simply deflect off of even a 4" stone rendering a bucketfull near impossible.
Now I get full loads every time.
