I'm still working in buying a new 40 +/- hp JD or Kubota (depending upon warranties, etc). But I've got a lot of brush like Blackberry bushes, ferns and other stuff that I need to clear out before I can find all the tree stumps to remove. I was thinking that a tooth bar on the front loader would be a reasonable way to drag that stuff out and pile it up for a winter fire.

Anyone use it for that? Do you think a tooth bar is worth getting? Would something like that void the warranty?

Also, I'm sure someone else has asked this question before - so is there a way to search the groups for certain words?

Thanks

Why not just brush hog it and be do with it? A brush hog will shred all that stuff and you wouldn't have to mess with it any more.

A toothbar is the greatest thing....... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Get it when you order the tractor, or take 45 mins and put it on later, you'll never regret it.
A search on toothbar and you'll get hours of reading. I put one on 2 weeks ago, the pictures are in the Pictures Forum, search there.

I would recommend getting a loader with a skid steer style quick attach coupler. Then buy a slightly smaller digging bucket with teeth and a slightly larger general purpose bucket.

Hoeman00 will back me up that it is better to have two skid steer style buckets than one bucket with a toothbar. It accually doesn't cost much extra either. Takes me about 30 seconds to change buckets.

I think toothbars are a very valuable piece of equipment.

Mark,

A toothbar is an incredible tool and probably the best value per dollar you'll ever find relating to your loader and bucket except for bucket hooks. I have a 61" Deere loader bucket and got a nice toothbar that cost me just under $300 at my door and absolutely love it. I highly recommend one and a pair of bucket hooks, too. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Good luck with whatever you decide. I hope this helps. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I don't have atoothbar....

Get one, moving the brush once you dig it out without one is hard. If I don't get just the right angle with my bucket, I lose the pile and have to start all over again. I think the toothbar would help me a lot. The brush really doesn't 'hang" onto anything in the FEL without the toothbar.

I know you can get long bars that protrude specifically for moving brush but I think the toothbar would be good enough and have other uses.

Tooth bars are great for all the reasons stated plus, it adds strength to the bucket lip. I just lifted a 2400lb cutter from a trailer and wraped the chain around the bucket with the lifting edge against the tooth bar. Didn't bother it a bit. Only down side to a tooth bar is if you are doing alot of lose gravel, dirt, etc. moving. With the tooth bar you lose that nice straight edge for the final clean up or grading.

I solved this. Mine attaches with two bolts on the side. I cut off two hitch pins and redrilled the pin hole. Now instead of the bolts I use the hitch pins. Now it takes me all of about 30 seconds to either remove or put my toothbar on.

Sounds like a great idea, but having a hard time picturing it. Was the hitch the exact same size? Is the hitch pin on the outside? A picture would be great!
