One good thing about yanking with the drawbar.. is that you tend to keep all four tires pointing down... :) We just had another fatality up here in Michigan with a guy pulling trees with a old Ford 8n... Probably hitched up high and going too fast, but haven't heard for sure ... :(

That's a scary thought and feeling when those front tires pop up. I want to see if I can find a welder to put on a draw bar up front. It's kind of strange that this isn't standard or at least available on tractors. You can pull as hard as you want from the front end going backwards and all that happens is that you put more weight on the front end, no chance of flipping the tractor. I also wish there was a way to turn of that engine assist. I'd rather stall out a tractor rather than flip it. Oh well, no one ever said tractors were safe.

Yup, the dealer threw that in. I figure with the tires, HST tranny, and FEL, this thing is pushing close to 8k #'s. Fenders start to rumble in high range. No biggie, I bought it for power, not to groom a race track. How you liking yours Flatpik? Any projects with that grapple yet? The 48" grapple from Wildkat should be showing up on Wednesday and I have plans.

I did a little cleaning up just to test it the first weekend out. Also used the grapple to unload a trailer full of cross ties. Worked very well. however some of the larger trees I was grabbing did cause the rears to raise so I am picking up 3 drums of Rim Guard Friday morning and will be installing the ballast over the weekend.

Have fun and stay safe.

Hi Blamo, tell me a little more about popping these pine stumps out of the ground.I am ordering the 5035 with the ML130 fel today, did you use the fel or were you using the 3point hitch with a draw bar ? that is just what I am going to use mine for,
Richard

Richard, I used the FEL and then thought better about it latter, putting that much pressure on the FEL. So, I've reverted to using the draw bar which isnt as effective but much gentler on the equipement. I loosen them up with the bucket, pushing and then pulling with the back of the bucket. Then, turn her around and attach the choker to the draw bar. It takes a lot longer and is a pain if I want to rock the stump again. You have to unhook and turn around. The problem is not power, its traction. If your going to pull stumps, I would recommend that you add as much weight as possible. Fill the tires, add wheel weights, and put something in the bucket. I actually have a 2 or 3 hundred pound rock that I grab with the grapple for weight. 6 or 7 inch stumps, no problem. Anything bigger and the tires just spin. Good luck, let me know how you make out.

Blamo- I'm buying a 5530 this week and I also live in upstate NY. Where did you buy your Mahindra? I'm purchasing mine from Wysox PA. I am hoping to get the loaded tires thrown in for good measure. Hows your experience with it in the first year? Thanks

Congrats; whats that brown stuff on the tires?

The 3 point on my 3016 has much-much more lifting power as well; and I agree on the safety issue as I work on a slope most of the time and the uphill tires like to fly.

Pulling from the drawbar or working the FEL with properly counterweighted rear weight take a lots of stress off the front axle. You hear stories of guys breaking stuff, front driveshafts/etc., and part of this is from overworking the front axle. Keeping most of the weight on the rear tires makes them do most of the work moving the tractor, and off the 'front wheel assist'...

I just bought one of these myself. I should take delivery in a week or so. I barely could find one, as they have been discontinued in favor of the 3550, which is tier 4 compliant and has an MSRP $4500 higher. I got it with an FEL with 4-way bucket and Rim-guard. That puts the weight up to about 8900 lb with no rear implement and without me on it. Pretty stout for a 49 Hp tractor! I also bough the dual spindle 8' brush cutter. Now I have a few things for sale: 1982 Kubota B7100 HST w/ FEL; 2100 hrs. 1974 Ford 4110 (Yellow), 5000 hours; 4' rear blade; 5' clamp on blade for bucket;4' Woods brush bull in good shape; 6' generic brush cutter in rough shape; 15 cu. ft. dump cart;; new 75" bucket that I won't need with my 4-way bucket.

Congrats on the tractor! I'm in CNY (in between Syracuse and Utica) and I recently bought a 2555 HST Cab. LOVE it. I've already got 18 hours on it! I hope you enjoy it!
