Jim just as an update today we tried to take the loader off the tractor following the instructions spelled out in the NH operators manual once again and there was no way it was coming off the loader arms.
So we used a 3 inch concrete block set under the jack stand as you suggested and the loader came free and without problems.
I'm now thinking that if New Holland might have attached the jack stand to the loader at a little sharper/steeper angle an owner might not need to use a block under it to get the loader free from the tractor.
Since I don't drop my loader in the same spot time after time and I'm not carrying a 3 inch concrete block around with me in my toolbox I'm going to be sticking with our original game plan for loader removal. I now concede however that it is possible to remove both the 16LA as well as the 17LA loaders with the help of the cinder block.
