I have been generating yards and yards of chips -- mostly poplar, maple and willow. Everywhere I put them turns into a mess. Any suggestions on how to use them or better dispose of them?

Around here people buy truck loads and truck loads of chip and bark mulch. They use it as a landscape mulch around in areas where they don't want grass or weeds. Around bushes and flower gardens. Maybe an add on CL would bring people who want it free especially if you can load a p/u

I know if you pile it it seems to stay forever. I use it to fill holes in the woods but that way it seems to disappear and the hole returns - go figure.

I'll agree with the ad on CL. A buddy of mine who's growing produce in a high tunnel is begging tree trimming companies to bring him wood chips. The few he has got, he uses as walkways between the beds of plants. Keeps their feet from getting muddy, and after eventually breaking down over a few years, adds organic matter.

In fact, if ever you could chip the Willow, especially young trees with green sprouts in a separate pile, some may be interested in it to make a tea out of, for it's natural rooting hormone content, to water their plants with.

One man's trash....

Stack them in a pile near the road, with a sign stating chips $5 per pickup truck load. Honor system. They will all be gone in a day.
