Boy this thread went DOWN the drain in a hurry !!
I wonder how many of our members grew up in a time and location in which they actually did have an outhouse and use the Sears Roebuck (also known as Sears Rareback) and Montgomery Wards (also known as Monkey Wards) catalogues. I've been there and don't miss those days at all.
Soo; scoff at my suggestion of Moss. Try it, see if you still prefer TP. It surely beats the catalogue.
Visit us in the Philippines... there is a reason why there is a 5 gallon bucket of water beside the toilet. Toilet paper is a waste of money!

Hygiene is not though...
Country folks that we often visited always asked us to bring them the last year city phone books.
They said it made great TP, but not the yellow pages.
Compared to newspaper phone book pages was a luxury for them.
Finally, a thread about one of my pet peeves, toilet paper. I go to Sam's and buy a giant pack of Charmin "24 double rolls = 48 regular rolls".
Put a roll on the dispenser and the next day its all gone. Check the label and it says 165 sheets per double roll.Who ever heard of a roll of toilet paper with only 83 sheets? We used to buy rolls of Northern with 1000 sheets. Even Angel soft has 264 sheets in their double rolls.
How can a manufacturer get by with false advertising like "double rolls with only 165 sheets" or Mr Whippel saying please don't squeeze the Charmin because its squeezably soft when the only reason the roll its soft is because there are so few sheets on it and it is wrapped so loose to make it as large as a roll with 500 sheets.
This upsets me so much I'm going to have to go have a few Margaritas to calm me back down so I can sit back and ponder "why can I keep a loaf of Wonder bread on the counter for 2 months and its still soft and white when my bread used to turn hard and green after 5 days?"![]()
Years and years ago there used to be a bucket in the outhouse filled with corn cobs. Use your imagination on how they were used. This was after the catalogs had ran out.
Spanish moss works down here, when out in the woods and no TP...
