TODAYS SEAT TIME

The purpose of this story is to point out that not everyone knows everything. We all have our own experiences which come from our needs and wants through the years. We are the sum of our experiences. Just because someone doesn't know something doesn't make them an idiot. It just means they haven't needed the information or they haven't run across that person that will teach them about a particular topic. From my experience, when terms like idiot are used it is just to feed a persons ego at another persons expense.

Well said... good advice in every situation. If you remove ego-based conversation, what's left can be very productive and informative.

Got the pasture mowed yesterday. Had to wait until afternoon, though, until I'd finished some other errands. Like Rick and Drew, absolutely love the air conditioned cab. 92ーF outside yesterday, but nice and cool in the cab.

Had to stop after the first few rounds, as the engine seemed to be running a bit hot. Looks like I didn't check the cooling system after the last mowing. Oil and radiator screen were clogged with dust. Blew that out, and it ran fine. Imagine that.

Also, finally reached 50 hours, and right on schedule, had the first regen. I mean, literally within about 10 seconds of the meter hitting 50 it started. The rpm bumped slightly and it got a little warmer, but other than that it ran normal. No smoke, and only a brief smell about halfway though. About 20 minutes later, the lights shut off and it was done.

I was working along our property line with a chainsaw, chaps, and a helmet and I was watching my neighbor in a tractor just like that making hay. He looked pretty cool too.

Gordon, there is a tree line on the right of the picture (east) and another one behind where I stood to take the picture (south) that are in desperate need of some limbing up so I can get closer to the fences. It's one of those jobs I keep putting off.

I called Fafnir's lead engineer. He did tell me that from their research most bearings fail due to over greasing. .

So how do you know how much grease is enough and how much is too much. My BearCat chipper has greasable bearings. It just says do not over grease in the maintenance manual. I usually keep pumping until I see the seal start to swell a little. I have no idea if that is good or bad.

The only real answer to that is to remove the seals on the bearing so you can see how much grease is in there, but that also isn't practical. As a rule of thumb I gauge how many pumps I give according to the size of the bearing. A small 1" OD bearing gets one pump, 2" OD bearing gets two pumps and so on. But, cross check that method by doing as you are doing. If the seals start to push out, then that is too much grease so back off a bit.

Got the pull start cord fixed on my saw only to find out it still won't start. Looks like new coil time...
Thought I'd take a stab at getting the last piece out of the right of way anyway. I was pleasantly surprised and got the end of the biggest log picked up between the legs of the carryall with a chain and up to the woodpile. I did get a couple pics. If anyone has a coil for a dolmar ps341 cheap let me know ...

Then there are bearings on a 4x4 tractor front end housing pivots, I cant see them so I give a couple pumps/100 hr.
