Still doing some cleanup, though the main yards are clear for mowing(and have been mowed twice so far). Spent some time working on connecting two parts of one that had a junk pile and an old craphouse that fell over block access between them, as well as consolidating the junk pile and moving a few branches.

I'll get a dumpster in one day and toss all the junk, but today is not that day.

On the plus side I found a nice flowerpot inside the remains of the outhouse.

AND of course, something did.....it came right apart...

Then it was time to remove the old wore out U-joint,

clean EVERYTHING up, and put it all back together,

And, the "self unloading" firewood hauler is back in business!

Yes, actually. The outhouse spent the last decade or so of its life as a garden shed. Also looked like this:

I mowed several yards. They named my Grasshopper from the wrong animal. They should’ve named it a mountain goat. My Dixie chopper wouldn’t touch that hill. I’d say the front mount series is even better.

:welcome: to the forums! That's a nice looking setup that you have Eric. I looked at a 1710 last year when I was shopping. It was in nice shape but there's no way that I was paying $14,000 for a 30 year old tractor. Somebody did though, because the next time I stopped in it was sold.

My father paid like $14K maybe 15 years ago. BUT, that was the tractor, loader, disc harrow, drag box, chain harrow, and a drill with 2 bits. Still going now, so quite the deal.

That was probably a pretty sweet price. Last year when I was looking, I was shocked at what older tractors are going for; about 3K less than what I paid for my 3301. Yet on reflection I may have been better off paying it... I hate what I have, mostly because of the HST; and am going to replace it as soon as I can afford to, but will take a pretty big hit when I sell it.

One of my fields (10 acres) was just BARELY able to take the weight of the tractor so I picked rocks. That has got to be just about the worst job there is on a farm.

The rain came in again at 2 PM so I was glad for that. I was pretty much toast by then and had to have Mrs BrokenTrack rub my sore back from lifting all those rocks.

I was able to fortify a few rock check dams on one of my heavy haul roads through with the rocks removed from the field. I had a few blowouts from a major storm last year and got some ditch erosion. It is a 9.82% grade there. As my truck driver says, "It does not look bad going up the hill (empty), but it sure does when you top the hill (loaded)". It is actually kind of a tough road to navigate. The 500 foot grade terminates at a T intersection where the truck has to make a 90 degree curve, all swinging before a culvert. On the opposing side is a 5 foot embankment. Its not bad in the summer, but in the winter with 110,000 pounds on, it is a different story.
