TODAYS SEAT TIME

It's a Kodiak. Design is fine, better than some I've seen. I just tried taking too steep of an approach angle. Any steeper and it would be risking the PTO shaft. Had the flatbar not bent, it would have also been stressing the top link.
I've run my two Woods rotary cutters for MANY years and nothing has bent or broken on them, (other than the skirting from abuse) and that's after uncountable numbers of acres on them, as I do custom rotary cutting in the worst conditions...

IF my Woods bent like that, I'd call it a poor design and something that should NOT have happen...

Well this goes back to last week, but I have waited a long time to finally have something to post in this thread! Last week was the first time to really play with my new-to-me 1990 JD 970 TLB.

The first project was installing some steps from the grass onto the beach. This has always been a steep muddy and slippery slope. It's too steep to mow, so even when dry the long grass makes it very slippery. We installed a new septic field about 15 years ago, so there's a nice supply of blast rock to choose from. I picked the biggest flat rocks available and set them into the bank:

The next project was to flatten out the bottom of the yard to create a grassy sitting area just above the beach. I skimmed off the topsoil and set it aside before completing the excavation. The photos are a bit misleading, it is larger than it appears, measuring about 18' deep and 25' wide. The bank at the highest is about 3'6". Got it dug out, graded and level all in a day. It was reseeded the next morning. I'll build a dry rock retaining wall along the bank over labour day.

Finally, I needed a proper flat spot to park the tractor (temporary until a proper covered home can be arranged). This will have to do:

Tractors are fun!

You would need to see the angle starting up that hill puts on it. Either something was going to bend or lift the rear of the tractor off the ground. If I had a top cylinder instead of top link, I could shorten it some on the fly and gain a little extra. As it is, if I run with it any shorter, the tail wheel comes up as I crest hills. It was operator error plain and simple, I should have picked a better line with less approach angle.

Congrats on the new tractor, Drunkwater. Nice-looking work.

... and a good-looking BC you have there, too.

a new TLB, now there's a reason to be happy. Think of all the things one can dig up, lines to bury, ponds and landscaping to do.

my seat time today was very enjoyable, gave my Kubota a really good bath, motivated somewhat by an awful smell of dead critter in the cab.
Found the rotting mouse on inside of engine screen next to manifold. Oops. Not much left of it when it washed out.
Tractor seemed to run a little smoother heading back to the barn all shiny and clean ;) just waiting to get dirty again
We all need an annual bath...

Today's seat time will involve stump grinding (with the Woodland Mills unit) and filling in the resultant holes, with the better half doing the manual labor, as she cannot operate the tractor very well.

I spent a couple hrs in the woods pushing back the piles where i cleared last winter. Stuff is rotting pretty good. Was dead trees to start with.0805171542.jpg

I did some mowing and added some hose sleeve to my 3rd function and grapple.
