Very envious of your soil there SR and the tiller too - if we dig a trench or hole, it's one bucket of rocks to 2 buckets of soil. A tiller here would just destroy itself in our glacial till.

I'm envious of soil you can run a tiller, or plow in.

We got 400-yards of rocks, and less than 100-yards of suitable 3-inch minus backfill, out of a trench. Most of the flat ground around here is prehistoric gravel bars, which is rock to rock contact with the voids filled with smaller rocks, sand, and then clay. Most soils you can go four feet vertical, and then start a safety layback. This stuff is 1.25:1 from the bottom of the trench.

We have had 2.55 inches of rain over the past 36 hours, and the run off played hobb with the steep drive to our place. The wash out was at least 8 inches deep and a foot and a half wide after the stream jumped the culvert. I sure hate to see all that material go over the bank, but there is nothing to do about it once it's done. it's an 8 foot drop.

I must have run 30 passes with the York rake just to start to restore the damage.

I need to bring in 80 yards of crusher run, but that's real money.

Meanwhile, the traveled part of the drive is so hard the rake won't even touch it.

The drive is 50 years old, it has held up pretty good, all considered. The bones are really starting to pop through though.

Planted 170 replacement trees where I had taken out some older trees that had seen there better days. Now going through and putting tree guards on and 1/2 a bale of straw to each. Mulching newly planted trees is one of the best things you can do for them, conserves moisture and prevents weeds. Next issue is keeping the deer from eating the new growth and rubbing trunks in fall.

Just a little mowing today. Nothing special but good for the soul. ;)

I should mow and weed-whack but can't bring myself to start. 2-1/2" of rain in the last couple days and sun today is making it grow.

We had a year of exceptional rain a few years ago. It kept the bottom field so wet I didn't dare bring the tractor near the creek crossing or the field for months... I used to say I could hear the weeds and grasses growing. Time I got down there everything good and bad was 5 ft tall and had gone to seed. No so this year...I have mowed it twice.

I started putting an electric fence around my orchard to try to keep them out. Hopefully that'll be enough, it just needs to be there until the limbs get above their reach.
I forgo putting the trèe guards on until fall, as they are a great place for tree borers to hide.
I also only have about 25 trees though...

The wind is blowing too hard for them here. They'd need little jet packs.

I tried to put the BH on today so that I can start planting trees, but found the return line is broken and all of the hydraulic fluid ran onto the ground.
I changed the hose but need to pick up 5 gallons of hydraulic fluid.
Good time to change the filter also.
