In this first picture, to the left of the seat, above the seat belt there is a little control panel...

The next picture will show it in more detail...

Re: Today\'s Quiz...

The question is: What does it do? Why is it called what it is called?

Hint:

If you guess what it does, you may figure out the name...

If you know why it has this name, you probably can easily figure out what it does... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

A guy told me pretty quick...so I did not get the chance to try to figure it out on my own...

Re: Today\'s Quiz...

With part of the name being Monroe , I'd have to guess that it controls the suspension in some way. Can it be used to stiffen the suspension under certain circumstances, and then return to normal when not needed anymore?

Is it for electric seat adjustments?

Re: Today\'s Quiz...

The character on the right in the orange box looks kinda like a TV set.... and all the other characters look kinda like TV antennas.... could it be controls for an onboard entertainment center? The Japanese are light years ahead of us in this area. I might be wrong though.....

I have misplaced my 'Japanese Made Easy' book, but I would guess it's for adjustable air shocks.....

Ride height adjuster?

Re: Today\'s Quiz...

I would have to go with Gary. Monroe Matic is a model of a shock absorber.

I have a question. Why do some of the controls have English letters or numbers and some do not??

Re: Today\'s Quiz...

Ok.... I got a little more sophisticated in my efforts. I used google and found a reference to a "Monroematic" tractor seat. So.... I'm going with adjustable seat shocks... instead of entertainment center.

Is "Monroematic" an American trademark, and quite possibly their logo is not permitted to be printed any other way?

Re: Today\'s Quiz...

I agree with Greg. Looks like there was a Seat for an 8n that was a monroematic

Gotta be an electronic seat adjust/

Well, with any luck we'll have an answer shortly. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

One of my golfing buddies is the Japanese interpreter for Kikkoman Soy Sauce Company. I sent him a copy of the picture of the panel and asked him to translate it for me.

Hopefully he isn't out having to "entertain" any officials from Japan. If he is, we may have to wait a few days! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Well...before I tell...one more hint.

I am not sure if this will help...but I mentioned this control to my wife and said I did not understand the relationship to the name...

And it made perfectly good sense to her [she's Japanese]. As a matter of fact, she then said something that made it make sense to me too at that point...

I guess that the root basis for the name of this control dates back to the late 50s early 60s... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Ready to say "uncle" ?

Re: Today\'s Quiz...

A seat "TYPE" RIDE adjuster? Gives your butt a smoother ride
independant of what is happening to the tractor.

I say "TYPE" because I think the name Monroe implied calculators or typewriters at that point in history.

Re: Today\'s Quiz...

I'll try to scan or snap a shot from the brochure I have later and post it...

I never really heard of the "Monroe walk" but maybe others here have... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Seems like Marilyn Monroe walked in a fashion where one side and then the other, as viewed from the rear, went up and down... Almost before my time, but apparently it has left a lasting impression on the Japanese...

This control is self leveling tilt control, that is used with a tiller to maintain a level surface as the tractor moves. It will hold the tiller level if the tractor shifts side to side as it moves forward.

The tiller mounds the dirt up and makes a flat surface about a yard wide, with channels between each row...

The left button in Kubota blue, is the on/off switch.

In the center is the manual/auto selection. Manual on the top and auto on the bottom.

On the right are the left down, right down buttons, which I assume you use if you are in manual control, or perhaps to for initial set up before putting the system in automatic.

By the way, this tractor had two rear pto speeds, I believe they were 540 and 1,000, and also had a reverse selection, that the farmer could use to better move the earth as needed when he reached the end of the row...

Guess I am now going to have to find an old movie and see how Ms. Monroe actully walked... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Today\'s Quiz...

forget the picture of the brochure . . . lets have one of M.M. doing that walk that inspired the Japanese. I'll bet its a doozy.

Probably the best movie for that is The Seven Year Itch . Even if that movie doesn't show "the walk", it WILL show the famous billowing skirt scene.

And yes, I'm old enough to remember the walk! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I'll confirm the description as presented! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Today\'s Quiz...

Henro,

I was originally going to ask why the Japanese tractors don't have all those stupid universal symbols on them like ours do? I figured that would make it so perfectly clear. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Now, after reading your answer, it's apparent that they really missed their opportunity! Of all the stupid symbols I have on my tractor, I can honestly say I would not complain if one of them looked like Marilyn Monroe...back, front, side, top or bottom view would be fine. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Instead, we get some stupid diagram that's supposed to tell us when we have 4WD engaged. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
