TO20 Throttle Friction Material?

Does anyone know what the correct material for the throttle friction disc is? I finally got tired of mine slipping (after about 10yrs) and took it apart. What's on it now is home made and rubber, less than 1/8" thick. I'm betting that's not the right stuff - I was figuring cork would be better. It may also be a thickness or spring tension problem, as the spring was compressed as far as it could, and still not holding. Of course, there's no way to tell if it's even the original spring, either!

Small world.. someone asked me this just the other day.

I'm pretty sure that the cork friction disc on the fergy to-20 is the same one as the ford 9n/2n using the fergy system.. And still again for the 8n.. etc.

You are refering to the disc under the hytrol handple ( draft control handle ) correct?

Guess you could cut one yourself too out of some cork material.

Soundguy, the throttle contol has a pivot in front of the steering gear assy. That pivot has a flanged piece with a friction disc. I think that is the one Chris is referring to.

DUH! I'm reading too many messages! And getting my replies mixed up.

This reply should have been.. " Try the one from an NAA.. it has a very similar setup, with the friction disc on a rotating housing in front of the steering gearbox as well. "

( I guess that other guy that I was talking too about the hydraulic friction disc probably got the wrong answer too! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I better go email him and 'swap' the answers out! )

I'm thinking the disc is cork as well. The old man had a similar problem with his TO20 but he adjusted it as the cork was not completely worn out yet.

Thanks guys! While I did think about leather, I'm thinking it wll get shiney and hard after a while. I'm going to make something out of cork. Any idea how thick it should be? In theory anyway, it desn't have to be very thick, as the spring and clamp are infintely adjustable. Well, I made one! I used 2 pieces of cork gasket material with a piece of thin aluminum falshing material sandwiched between. I glued the cork to the aluminum with weather-stripping adheasive, and clamped it between wood blocks. The cork didn't seem to strong and I worried it might tear eventually. The aluminum is thin and flexible so it will conform to the surface. It definitely has more fritction than before, but I'll have to wait until I get the exhaust fixed to see if it's enough.
