This probably sounds like a dumb question, but I'm going to ask anyway since I don't know the answer and don't want to offend anyone. When my BX23 is delivered, should I tip the delivery guy and if so, how much? A BX is a little more pricey than a pizza and that's about the only thing I have with which to compare. Your thoughts ...

I've known a part-time, occasional delivery guy, over the past 10 years, and gone along often for the ride. He's never had a tip, and I don't think he would expect one.
Now, that doesn't mean if you feel good about the delivery, that a $10 spot wouldn't be appreciated. Probably what he is getting an hour.

Patrick . I personally wouldn't "tip " the delivery guy . But if He's courteous , and professional , I'd let the dealer know about it . And, If you feel that he was very good .... Something during the Holiday season would be better remembered . John

Buy the guy lunch. Coming from someone that never has.......and your post brought out the "woops" in me. Of course my delivery driver has been on the road 2 hours when he gets here, and he has that to go back, so it might be a little different here. I feel bad now, the guy that delivered my 23 has been promoted to the guy that did my 50 hours service this time. He remembered my building and all.

I wont forget next time...............as if I will ever get the wife to let me do this again! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I had a little different delivery schedule. They needed to deliver it after hours because they missed 2 delivery dates earlier. They agreed to do it after hours to keep me happy /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I had already lost 2 days work.

When "Bud" showed up, he unloaded it and spent an hour or so with me showing me how it was set up. Then he wanted to see how it cut the lawn. He wasn't happy with it (looked great to me). So he gave me his cell phone number and told me to call if it I wasn't happy. Seems he lives 5 miles from me /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif and the boss was letting him take the truck home for the night. So.....we may have had an adult beverage or two since he wasn't going back to the shop.

Well....2 days later a few other things just didn't work right, mainly the FEL pins would NOT come out, too tight and the MMM did not lift level. I called and he picked it up the next night, this time he brought a few adult beverages as he was heading home with my tractor. I found out later that he and a neighbor worked for 3 hours that night at home and then he worked 4 more hours the next day at the shop to fix the things that were out of "alignment" and he returned it that night.

Well to make it short.......I had bought him and the wife a nice dinner certificate for his "trouble". He was really suprised when I told him to have a good dinner with his wife on me(they have 3 kids and don't get out much). Anytime I go in the dealership now, I get personal service /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The delivery guy who delivered my tractor was friendly and eager to review any questions I had about the BX23. He also had to unload 2 implements. I tipped him $20.00. I have had to call for service in the past and have always gotten good treatment from this dealership. I felt this was a good way to show my appreciation.

This sounds like a guy I want on my computer team. I am sure he would want to NOT get his hands dirty......... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Patrick,
The fact that you've even given it some thought tells me that you are a considerate fellow. Whenever I think "Should I tip?" I have learned to just go ahead and do it. I have never regretted it. To be sure, I may have been off the mark sometimes in terms of $ amount by some folks' yardstick measures. Notwithstanding, there is truth in the old saying "It's the thought that counts." A $20-25 tip for a delivery/set-up is not over the top IMHO. If the delivery fellow spends a lot of time, then a tip plus a Holiday gift would be my preference.

just do what i do, if it feels right, then go ahead and give a tip! i get lots of boxes from the local hardware store( shipping e bay) they often will save particular boxes for me. to many folks to tip but i did have a few large pizzas and wings sent over one day for them to enjoy. not the $$$ that counts, just that folks know u appreciate their effort.

I enjoy reading topics like this as it is very alien to me. In Aust we have no tradition of tipping, no one does it and no one expects it. I wonder whether tipping is the single biggest difference in our cultures.
