I have a DK55c with 38 hours on it and when I use my woods 6 ft. mower for an hour or so the rear housing around pto shaft gets pretty hot. when checked it was around 170 degrees. Everything works fine no abnomal noise. But I personely think that is to hot. Just was wondering if anybody out there ever had the same problem or if anybody has an idea about what temp. it should run at. Thanks.

I have a dk55c. I have never checked the temp but i would think that the housing would reflect the temp of the hydraulic oil inside the transmission case. It would probably be in that range when being used. I have used a much bigger shredder on mine with no trouble so far. You could check the temp of the case down lower to see if it was close to the same numbers.

When mowing with my ck30 I monitor the temp of two things. The engine coolant with the gauge and the trans fluid temp by placing my hand on the trans filter which is reachable from the operator station. I hold my hand on teh filter and if I can leave it there for three full seconds then it is fine. If not, I have a plugged cooler and need to open it up. The trans fluid gets hot.

170 is colder than the engine coolant so likely not in the too hot range with regards to seals.

Thanks for your replies. I was just concernd if might mean a more major problem. But so far it has not gave me any problems so I will just wait and see. I will see what I get when I change the oil.
