I had some screening done last year and here are some pics of the "leftovers". I also have a pretty big pile of stumps. I considered leveling the "leftovers" in some low areas I do not use and just let it grow up. What are your thoughts? I am even considering having it hauled away. I have no idea what to do with the stumps, I refuse to bury them as every time I do that I end up using the spot where I buried something.

What are your thoughts??

Why can't you burn them?

Everytime I have buried stumps, rocks, or anything else I have ended up digging it back up to make room for something. I have the room to bury them, but with all the run off its pretty wet. I am also waiting for the survey company to start the field work so I know exactly where my lines are (long story). I have had a few people wanting to come over and grind everything and haul them to the power plants because the power plant will now take them, but I am still waiting.

He said burn. Why can't you burn them.

If there is no law against it and your ground is currently wet, it may be a viable option?

PS .... I hope that needing the ground they are buried under does not come to pass for me - I buried mine. :D

Ooops, sorry I miss read. Have you ever tried to burn stumps. I have, it didn't work out so well. Not only did most of them not burn, they reignited by them self. It must have been burning inside the stumps, I thought they were out, no smoke, no nothing. About a week later my wife came home and they were on fire again.

LOL ... come to think of it, we used to get sent into the woods as kids to look for old, partially rotted stumps because they did not burn well and took a long time to burn down (smoking meat or fish).

The landowner down the road just finished clearing about 20 acres and burned his stumps, but he had to re-pile the stumps and re-light the fire about 3 or so times.

Hopefully those wanting to chip up your pile and haul it away for you will show up! That should make things easier for you.

I also had another thought (probably just as useless as the last one, but what the hey! :D). Do you have any land that you are not using? This is way out in left field, but logging operations just spread the stumps, etc. out over the ground and eventually it all rots back into the ground. In order for that to work a guy would need some land that he does not plan on using for a long, long time.

:D .... I'm not coming up with any Sunday afternoon brilliance today, am I? :D

Hiya Chris

LOL "Sunday afternoon brilliance" I do have some land I do not use where I could spread the tail ends. I do have a "hollow" where I could push the stumps but that is why I am having a survey done just to make sure I know where my lines are before I go pushing stumps around.

I burned about 5 big piles of this stuff after grubbing about .6 acres a couple of years go.
What I couldn't burn i hauled to the landfill.

Well if they reignite that's not a big deal is it as you are wanting the darn things burned anyhow.;)
What we do with the stump piles here is take a gas powered fan or leaf blower and get the inside of the pile going pretty good with all of the extra air. It gets pretty hot once they are going. Just try to stack them Teepee type so the heat is drying them out. You may want to use some metal pipe to direct the air close to the fire so it doens't melt your fan. I have seen 18-20 piles of stumps burned down pretty quickly.. Get some old diesel or motor oil down in the middle to help get it started.
