I have a TO-35 and the studs that hold the axle housing trumpet to the center section on the right hand side have been eaten away by the exhaust gasses from the tailpipe. On some it's just the nuts that are gone and maybe I can replace and tighten up. But on others half the stud or more is eaten away and it's starting to seep oil. Some of the corroded studs are eaten down to maybe 3/16-1/4 inch. Of course, the worst damage is on the bottom bolts where the exhaust exited and those are the also the ones that carry the greatest weight load.

Do you think I can replace these studs without pulling the axle housing off? I would just like to get everything tightened up for now and only use the tractor with light loads on the 3-point.

If I have to remove the right side trumpet to get at the lower studs how big of a job will it be? Any tips or hints for this are appreciated.

Depending on diff case studs can be 7/16 or 1/2 inch size. Usually not really tight as they come out with studs sometimes. Might try to weld a nut to eroded studs and see if they will back out. If they break off drill center and use easy out. Should be able to do with axle in place. Maybe oil seepage will make studs easier to remove.

Hey, thank you Dieseltech. I'm starting to get the studs out, they look like 7/16" X 1 5/8". Is there anything special about these that I should get from Agco, or should I just look for something close at local NAPA, etc? I noticed that the threads are coarse on one end and fine thread on the outside end with the nut; does this matter? Thanks again.

May try a salvage yard, I have a 35 parts tractor but it has larger 1/2 inch studs in diff housing. Didn't look at parts book but Ferguson TO 20 and 30 may be same as what you need.

G.Day If you get stuck use 7/16"UNC set screws with spring washers they dont have to be studs.

Hutch.
