Winches TN75 Front mount winch

Oh, common guys that stock battery and 45 amp alternator is going to run that winch just fine under load.
Just as long as you can get the job done in 2-3 minutes, whats a little 500-700 amp draw to be concerned with.:confused2:
(definitely being sarcastic)

As has been mentioned an electric winch requires a large amount of current to do much,
that requires large and or multiple batteries and upgraded alternators and wiring.

A hydraulic winch or pto powered is much better suited to hard work,
an electric can be used but it would not be my first choice for HD use.

Skip an electric winch for a tractor. I suppose there’s some limited use for one for recovery when you’re alone, or only have one tractor, live in a swamp, etc..
If a 3 point pto or hydraulic tractor skidding winch attachment ain’t your thing, why not make up a few multiple lengths of cable with hooks and get a few snatch blocks?
I have a skidding winch, but prior to that, and even now when winch is not attached to tractor, or I need extra cable lengths; I use a 1/2” cable for retrieving all sorts of things.
Snatch blocks are great for redirecting the cable to a location where tractor or truck can hook on and has some pulling distance.

Hi Guys and thanks for your feedback.
As I previously mentioned, I do not intend to use this winch regularly. My primary skidding will be done from the rear. In fact one of the reasons I want to mount it to the front of the tractor is so it is out of the way and it minimizes my handling of it on the 3PTH when changing attachments. (it is pretty heavy too) I realize all the drawbacks and potential dangers (I will monitor motor temp etc.) to using it but it will be for those farther away had to get at logs. It is convenient to have a wireless remote as I can walk along with it and watch for hang ups. Also, I do have a snatch block as a back plan in case I am really stuck. :)

Good Day all,
So I finally got my winch installed and operating on my TN75. It works great, and FYI I just use it occasionally to pull out the far away and hard to get at log. Even then, I don't do a constant pull. This NH model has a Power shift which means I can forward/reverse without clutching. So my question is when I am winching, is it safe if the engine is turned off with the tractor in gear, will the engine act as a brake? Not that I will do this as I will not have battery charging on, (yes I do increase the throttle a bit) but the odd time it might be a slight pull when I am tree trimming while the engine is off?

Nope I really doubt it will hold back;
an easy way to find out, stop on a gentle slope, shut the engine down and release the brake pedal,
see if she starts to roll.
