First post ... so hello everyone !

The fuel injector pump on this tractor was leaking like a sieve around the large O-ring around the distributor head. Removed injector pump, and distributor head and installed a new O-ring. Re-assembled what I believe is the exact way we took apart.
Unfortunately, after re-assembly multiple times and multiple orientations of the plunger shaft we cannot get the engine to crank. Notch on the plunger and pin are aligned to the "key" for the timing gear. We did not touch or disassemble the adjustment for the timing, unfortunately I do not have a dial indicator to measure the 1mm of movement that is suggested in maintenance manual. I was hoping this pump could be reassembled without complicating life by touching that, and just by only replacing O-ring inside the pump. The pump was marked and re-aligned to same mark. Pump gear #4 aligns with #4 on cam gear with flywheel at PMS position. There is 12v going to the fuel shutoff solenoid when toggling the keyswitch on/off. There is fuel squirting out of each injector, with no air bubbles. No air coming out of bleed screw on fuel filter either.

Puzzled why she won't fire up. Any thoughts and or suggestions, appreciated. Hate the thought of having to have pump rebuilt because O-ring was leaking. Tractor ran fine up to this point.

G'day I am guessing the internal timing of the pump is out you might have to take to a pump shop to get them to retime

Agree with Jon. Even with the dial indicator, it is not an easy task to get in time, but is essential.
Probably not what you want to hear, but it is actually faster than guessing; I've tried to do it before and in hindsight it is easiest.

You're right that having to get the pump rebuilt isn't/wasn't my first choice. Trying to find a dial-indicator from New Holland to give it a try ... p/n in maint manual is obsolete ...
Sent a note to local injector pump place for a ballpark estimate, but haven't heard back yet on what rebuild would cost .. either way, gotta get the old girl running, almost time to start raking hay.

Thanks for the thoughts.

Curious, with the pump installed there is slots to be able to rotate the pump. After re-build ... is the pump basically plug-n-play ? Or is there more playing/adjusting of the rotation to get it spot on to be able to run ? Appreciate your help.

All ...

Finally rebuilt the pump again, set timing to 1mm of travel from bottom of stroke to 9-degrees BTDC. Tractor fired up and is running again ! Who-Whoo !! Just a $4.00 o-ring, and several hours of work ... but very happy I got it going again. I'm still not how much rotation of pump can affect the timing, but may test this out this coming winter during some downtime with tractor. Thanks for suggestions.
