I have a TN 65 that has had a rear main engine seal leak since it was new. I've had it around a year and a half. It wasn't leaking bad, just a little around the weep hole. I mentioned it to the dealer and they told me they all leaked a little until they had some time on them. It sounded like B.S. to me but it's under warranty so I figured I'd give it some time. It's never spotted the driveway. I haven't ran it much in the last five months but I have ran it enough to get it fully warm at least every week or two. I did about two hours of hard work yesterday and when I stopped at the store on the way home it left about an eight inch diameter oil spot under the tractor. I drove it the rest of the way home and after it set for a couple of hours it left about a two or three inch spot. I ran it hard for about an hour today and after it set for a couple of hours it hadn't left a spot. I'm wondering what you guys that have TNs have experienced as far as leaks. Is this normal for these tractors?

No it is not normal. Tell them to fix it or talk to another dealer and see what they have to say. New tractors are not suppose to leak. My 65 only had a problem with the power steering line leaking but was taken care of immediately.

I had it stuck in my mind that I had read of someone else having this problem and was curious of the outcome. I know seal leaks just don't go away but I was hoping, anyway. I dread losing my tractor for a week or two, it's finally drying out and I'm getting some work in. Thanks for replying.

bgott,

Mine does not leak either.
Get them to fix it.

Sometimes a rear main seal leak will stop after several hours. Most often not. It is time for your dealer to fix yours. Bear in mind this leak is not likely to become catastrophic at any time, so schedule the repair at YOUR convenience. Be sure your dealer understands the seal driver for the crank seal is NOT a NH supplied special tool and he MUST fabricate one using the specs and drawings in the service manual. No need for them to figure this out after your tractor is disabled in his shop.

You're right, I'll drag it to the dealer this week. I need to get it done so I can get some running time on the repair before it goes out of warranty. Thanks!

I know it's a repeat of above but neither the TN75S I had or the TN75D I have now has any leaks. Definately get the dealer to fix it before the warranty runs out.

I had the same leaky seal on my TN65 from the day it was new, I had my dealer fix it under warranty and it has not leaked since (about 200 hours since I had it fixed). The leak is not going to magically fix itself.

Follow up...I dropped my tractor off at the dealer within a week of posting this and got it back today. They found the rear seal on the engine leaking and the input shaft seal on the transmission leaked when the mechanic tilted the rear of the tractor foward to wash the oil out of the clutch housing. They replaced both seals and also replaced the clutch because it was oil soaked. They also replaced the starter because it gave me a problem the day I loaded the tractor to haul it to them. I think it might have been oil soaked. They replaced the seat latch and lever that I had broken trying to move the seat, no charge, and I paid to have a new exhaust pipe installed to replace the one that I had smashed. I'm happy with the service I received from my dealer, Lansdowne- Moody, here in Houston. I'm not so happy with New Holland's parts availability. If I was working this thing for a living I would have gone broke waiting to get my tractor back. The last week or two might have been waiting on the input shaft seal because they didn't find that leak until it was going back together but it was down two weeks waiting on the PTO clutch disc before that. The tractor was down a week waiting on the rear seal before I brought the clutch to their attention. You ought to be able to mail a seal from anywhere in the country in three days. My warranty is up August 10 so now I need to work the pee out of it to make sure the repairs hold up. I also need to buy a pressure washer. This thing looks like new again with a good wash! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

bgott,

I also bought my tractor from Lansdowne- Moody. Have been nothing but pleased with the service! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Which location did you use? I used the Webster store. Brian and Frank are great!

Glad to hear you got you rig back. Good luck to ya.
