Tire Sealant

Is tire sealant like a Slime type product okay to use in a little 4.80/400-8 Load Range B tire? I'm rebuilding a rusty old 4 x 8 trailer and will mount new tires. This could be used (by me or family members) on local busy streets at speeds up to 55 mph as well as maybe hauling brush around my place where thorns might be a problem.

I was just wondering what a dose of Slime would do to a tire that might get a little hot at summer temperatures on the road. Mike

Just get new tires and wheels. They are cheap, about $20 at Harbor Freight.

Yes, you could use one of tire sealants in your new trailer tires.

I'm with Chris. Just buy new tires/wheels. They're already mounted and ready to go. It's just not worth it to have a flat on the side of the road.

Thanks, folks. I'm am getting new tires....just wondered if a slime product would have some adverse effect if the high speed tire was put on the road. Now would be a good time to go ahead and add it. Egon thought it would work okay. Thanks everybody. I use "Linseal" (a green slime stuff) on the non-hyway trailers and small tractor tires already.

for the price adn quantity of a good sealant.. as others said.. I'd go new tires.. etc..

I think the question is really "Will sealants / slime have an adverse effect on a high speed tire?"

He admits he is getting new tires but is trying to be proactive with the thorn situation.

I have wondered this too but my limited knowledge has always been to not use slime in vehicle tires due to balancing issues. Maybe it wouldn't hurt a trailer tire?

imho.. i wouldn't run slime in a road tire due to the mentioned ballance issues.

that's all I need.. a trailer tire bouncing with my load on it while i shoot down the road...

Thanks again sld and Soundguy. Think I'll skip the sealant in this situation due to potential balancing issues. ... will deal with thorn issues if they happen.
