Tire loading adapter?

I will be at Napa tomorow AM!

I stopped at the local Tractor place last night. They had one made by Milton.

Milton part #s466. Priced at $7.59.

I have several of their air-tool products - Good Stuff.

Local Car Quest quoted me 13 bucks and change when I asked while purchasing a widget to remove the valve cores (they stock Milton products).

Kit looks exactly like the one in the NAPA Online photo. Seems to be well made.

What the high I.Q sales people at TSC did not tell you is they now stock one made by SLIME -- I had the same experience last spring until I found a guy in the store who had an I.Q larger than his hat size and he told me that the Monkey grip number was replaced by a Slime number but he did not have any way to find the number -- we then went back to the section of slime stuff he had just stocked and -- guess what -- there it was.
And yeah -- it was not 100% successful as they say in the military

I get to find out how it works tonight, as I finally have a night off (from 2nd Job), and will have a few hours to play in the pole-shed. I imagine that TSC will be calling me in the next couple days to let me know they finally have the kit back in stock. Too bad I'll be saying thanks, but no thanks.

Each tire took 42 Gallons, and 2.5 hours to complete. Luckily the Pole-Shed needed cleaning / organizing before the snow flies, so I had something to do whilst I was waiting.

I won't know the difference in "feel" until tomorrow night (gotta work 2nd job tonight).

After finishing the fill, I aired the tires to 15 psi, same as before the fluid.

Any thoughts on that pressure???

I have a Branson 4720, I think it has the same tires as yours. I looked at a web sight about filling tires and it said they should take 35gal each, How far did you fill yours? or where did you put the stem when filling? it sounds like I may need 90 gals, not 70.

Also what did you fill with? did you get it on sale?

My rear tires are, If I remember correctly, 43x16x20's.
I had the valve stem at 12:00 (AM or PM - it don't matter )

When I asked here on TBN how much they thought it'd take - An educated guess was about 50 gal. I did jack the tractor up fairly high to tilt the wheel back away from the valve stem, which may have helped with the extra gallonage.

I just filled them until the air-release valve would only release fluid, indicating that the level had been reached.

I used Zecol Blast WW Fluid. It was on sale for $1.39 per gal at the local Farm & Fleet. It was supposed to be the -25 stuff, but surprise-surprise, the online ad was wrong - It was -20 rated. They wouldn't knock anything off though, and as a businessman, I cannot stand the folks who cry "False Advertising" at every turn, so I accepted the deal, as it was still about 50 cents cheaper than other -20 stuff, and was an actual name-brand product to boot.

I'm confident it will do just fine...

How many hours on your 4720?
Has it been a good ownership experience thus far?

$1.39 !!! Thats great! the best I can do is $1.99. I will keep looking, I will also check my tire size and confirm it is the same.

My Branson experience has been great! I have about 100 hours on it, and it has worked hard for most of them. It does not have the power on my JD 310, but I also didn't expect it to. It is a stout machine. I would buy it again. How about you?

My previous Tractors have been pretty basic. No PS, No live PTO, No shuttle shift, No diesel power, No decent loader or FWA...

How do you think I like it?

Fact is I love it. I think I'll at least double annual the hours I used to put on, just because I enjoy using it so much. You end up going out of the way to do "projects" that before were just a PIA, and you didn't want to tackle unless absolutely necessary.

Only 42 hours. So far - So good!

I must say though that our forum section sucks big-time. Not many of the world's problems being solved there...

I enjoy the cat-fights that crop on TBN re: drive type, tranny choice, tires, etc. Apparently everyone makes different decisions based upon their needs, and no one is ever wrong in the ones they make. Sounds like a perfect world to me

The fitting from NAPA is made by Schrader-Bridgeport, and is a quality product, and along with it's main competition, Milton, still produces the majority of it's products in the USA.

As for the W/W fluid, if you live in what is known as an EPA "non attainment area", the fluid is only good to only +20F due to a cap of 8% methanol. Any sold in these areas that has a lower freeze point have other chemicals to prevent freezing; usually glycol, which would not be bad, except I have to sometimes throw out some half full jugs of W/W fluid because they have an algae, or some king of stringy slime growing in it, and has a slightly foul odor. I have also had to remove and dump/rinse my washer tank on one of my trucks for the same reason. It take about 3+ months before the slime forms, and only in jugs that are less than 75% full. I would try to find out where the folks making bio-diesel are getting there methanol from.

Was able to get out and put a couple hours on this weekend - Just dinkin' around.

The difference in feel when using the loader (esp with my oversize "snow" bucket) is very noticeable. My tractor is one of the heavier ones for its size/class (3756# dry weight), and now it feels even more "planted" with the extra ballast in the tires.

I now understand what others have stated re: the upside of tire ballasting.

According to the manual;
41x14x20 for turfs on the 29 & 35,
44x18x20 for turfs on the 38, 42 & 47

If you have different sizes - maybe a dealer did some sort of an upgrade swap ?

The manual also lists;
29 & 35
R4 Ag
260 220 pounds of liquid ballast, but it doesn't specify the mix.

38, 42 & 47
R4 Ag
400 280 pounds, again the mix is not specified.

I'm GUESSING that they are figuring, for example the R4 17.5Lx24 at 50 gallons of straight water.

From the firestone web site the 44x18x20 take 56 gallons (at 75%, 12 o'clock)
and the R4 17.5Lx24 take 55 gallons - so turfs and R4s are CLOSE, at least for the larger size.

I don't think I've seen R4s measured that way, in INCHES only as width and rim diameter, in METRIC as width, rim diameter and profile.
The manual that I have specs 15x19.5 for R4s on the smaller frame.
as I said, "...interesting".

I vaguely remember Bransons having slightly narrower tires than Century on the FRONT of the large frame tractors with R4s.

Anyway, the Firestone ag site is pretty good for hydro-inflation info and tire capacities, which is what this thread is all about (-:
