My Japanese Bridgestone tires say 2.2kg and 3.5kg. Is this literally 4.85psi and 7.71psi?

Nope, that's kg per square centimeter. I don't have a chart handy but 1 kg/cm2 = 14 psi.

Be careful that the bigger number may be the "don't inflate the tire over this much to seat the bead" number, not maximum inflation, which might be the lower number.
