I have a '72 Ford 3000 12.4x28 tire with 6 loop mount rim/center.

I had a rim rust through and cut the intertube. They are probably original and rusted to pieces. So I have taken off the whole assembly and going to put on new brake shoes and bought new rims and tires. While apart I am going to paint the center section.

What is the easier method to put back on mount the center part to the axle then put the rim on or mount the rim to the center part and mount the whole thing to the axle hub. I don't want to bugger the hub lug threads and I would rather not scratch up the rim but looks like its going to be either or as I don't have a tire dolly/jack.

I will probably not liquid fill the tires right now.

The tires were mounted on the inward side of the center section. So I have to put the tire on then clock it to align.

No right or wrong answer to this, just everyone's opinion on what's easiest for them. I PREFER to mount tire/rim/wheel as a complete assembly personally. I do everything with the wheel "at rest" on the floor or against a wall, then only ONCE will I fight the complete assembly as I mount it on the tractor.

I like to do it the same way Farm I use a engine hoist to lift and position the wheel and tire

ditto what farm said.. I get the tire on the rim.. then mount he rims and caenter as an assembly.. get a bottle jack under the axle, along with your jack stand.. lean the tire up and align the bolt pattern.. then use the bottle jack to scootch the axle up.. or if too high, lay a plank of wood under the tire...
