Tips Cutting old Pasture Ground for hay

Sounds like you on the right track. I use urea 46-0-0 on the hay pile, but with your pig poo you wont need it. I compost my horse poo by just piling it up and turn it over once in a while. With you situation just start a pile and layer in as this develop - especially the sloppy stuff. Good luck. So far I have been able to use all I produce. I use it to level field ruts - just dump a bucket and back drag so it fills in between the grass clumps. So far it is working well.

Thanks @powerscol. I think we are on the same wavelength regards the extra nitrogen. I went on a trip and spoke with a guy who 'does it properly' with a windrow turner and covers and the compost was amazing stuff. He had a heat probe that he'd check the temperature with, if it got up to 68°C then he'd turn it to avoid killing all the biological life in the row. Think that's 155°F. I'm looking for a more stable, slower method as I obviously can't turn 400 cubic yards with my bucket in an hour or 2.. so I thought I'd pick your mind. How high do you build your pile? The downside is that the base in the barn is very coarse woodchip, which will take forever to decompose. I will source finer stuff for next time, that's for sure.

Piles are no higher than the bucket can reach - keeps it simple.
