Awesome, thanks for the additional info. So it sounds like your fireplace is basically a forced air furnace more than a radiant heater then? At any rate to keep a house your size warm from a single fireplace at such low outside temps is an awesome achievement. I'd like to be able to do it someday as well, but my fireplace is an old-school kiva-style masonry one that won't fit any inserts of any useful size.

Yes, most heat is from the forced air similar to a furnace although there is also a good amount of radiant heat from the glass as well. You can feel the radiant heat from any of the couches in the living room.

I ran across this today and thought I would share. We didn't make the magazine but did get nominated in timber home livings readers choice for "best kitchen" category which I thought was kind of cool.

A few updates since I posted early this year as well. We have started finishing the basement. Nothing real fancy. Carpet, drywall, and grid ceiling but will make a nice movie/game room and a place to send the kids when it starts to get too noisy. With what I learned during the build I was able to comfortably do all of the electrical myself which was nice. I've also finally started cleaning up and staining my outside timbers. Timbers in the front of the house are done and started today on the back of the house. The back timbers seem like a daunting task. We also poured some concrete outside of the garage as well as some steps off the front of the house. A little landscaping in the front as well.

How is you house doing with air-conditioning this summer?
Also can you tell me what your wall height is in your loft?

Looks like voting is still open so vote away. Lol. Some pretty spectacular kitchens in the pics. I just thought it was neat to see someone felt ours was done well enough to be nominated.

Air conditioning is doing great this summer. No humidity issues like we had last year. We have not had to run a dehumidifier this summer. I think the longer run times and less cycling have helped the units pull more of the moisture out. I'll check loft wall height tomorrow and let you know. Got all of my tools including my tape measure at work right now.

Not sure how they got it Eddie. I know Clydesdale frames has it on their website as well as Houzz and Pinterest. I think Timber Frame Resource Council also featured it on their website and facebook page.
