Attached is a photo of my mounting of a tilt meter. I didn't like the bracket that came with the meter (it was just to big). I just bent up a piece of sheet metal to fit the slot, and under the instrument panel and down to lock it in place. I slotted one hole for vertical adjustment.

Looks good to me!!

I used the supplied brackets from R&B. Due to the camber of the hood (on my Deere 670), I had to use the brackets slightly misaligned to ensure the bubble was at zero on a level surface.

But your installation looks much neater!

Okay, let's see who's done the WORST installation of a tiltmeter on a 4300 (or on anything for that matter.) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

While I'm still thinking about an ultimate location, here's what I came up with as a quick solution. Requires no drilling, no tape, no modifications whatsoever.

I'm not sure if this is sheer brilliance or sheer insanity. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If anyone likes the idea, maybe they would consider making a mount that is customized for the fuel cap door....?

Best....Bob

p.s. Sorry about the filthy tractor.. just got done working and haven't washed yet. Also, my wife cracked up when she saw the weird mark on the hood, and realized it was my finger over the lens of the camera. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Jim -

THAT is one clean installation. I may have to re-engineer mine! Is the mount just wedged in under the dash cover?

Steve,

The bracket has a 90deg bend toward the instrument panel, goes under the lip of the panel cover and then down about 1/8". Tightening the panel cover screws secures the bracket . It takes a little measuring, bending, checking the fit, bending, checking, etc. I made the mount base narrower than the upper part to minimize the effect of the curvature of the cover.

No holes were drilled in the tractor as with my other modifications.

I don't know they engineer those clean looking hoods so you guys can see your FEL's and then you stick those meters right smack in the middle of the line of sight. Why not position it on the flat surface upright mounts for the FEL itself? Your eyes will need to move to the side to read it but I think it may be better than sticking it upfront. Whadda all think?

Unless you are four feet tall, mounting the tiltmeter front and center doesn't obscure anything but your view of the top of your hood.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

OK, so where did you get the "tilt-o-meter" from?" I have the same 4300 (and yes a Yanmar 1500 also) and would love to have one of these for both added safety and my own knowledge of just have "off kilter" I am!

You can order them from TBN's store at this web page . Buying here supports Tractorbynet!

Is there a real point to have one of these? I know if I'm on a hill and i don't think i need a meter to tell me that. I guess it would be useful when mowing but is that it?

It's a guy thing. You know guys they got to have all the toys. Heck I have my tip-o-meter sitting here on my desk next to me, even before my dealer delivered my NH (hopefully today). Now for safety sake the tip-o-meter is a very good idea as sitting on your keister can't always give you the proper perspective on the amount of grade that you are working with. I have mowed my pond dam more than once and always wondered exactly what the slope was, now I'll know. And if it turns out to be more than a 15 degree angle then I'll deal with the mowing at a 90 degree angle.

I recommended in an earlier post that the tilt-o-meter might be mounted in an area other than in line of sight on the hood keeping the clean look of the tractor. This is a shot of how I mounted mine on the left FEL support on my TC-40D. As you can see from the picture it is easy to see from the operator position. I used a bit of RTV silicon to mount it so that I didn't even have to drill any holes and if I need to remove it for any reason use a piece of dental floss to get behind the tilt-o-meter to saw the silicone lose. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
