I have been running my Caroni FL in low range, 1st gear for a couple weeks now with pretty good results. Last night I went over a 1/4 acre plot several times, but could not get the soil to really break up into small pieces like I wanted. Everybody wants the soil to look like fluffed up potting soil (me included) but it just wasn't happening. I usually turn around at the end in 2nd gear and then shift back into 1st when tilling. On one such pass I forgot to shift back into 1st gear and just gave her some more throttle and went ahead. When I looked back, much to my amazement, POTTING SOIL was following me. It only took a couple more rounds at this speed and I had perfect planting soil. Has anyone else tried a faster gear, instead of the (Always go slow) method.

That's part of using any implement. You have to adjust speed, rpm, etc. to get the best results. What works in one instance may not work the next time. The grass can be higher or wetter. The soil may have more or less clay and wetter or dryer. The windrow can be wide or skimpy.

That's why I like a hydostatic transmission. You can instantly adjust ground speed for the conditions.
