I have a Land Pride rear tiller and the crankcase calls for Shell Avania EP 00 oil, which I think is more like a grease. Below it, it states that 90 wt. gear oil may be substituted. So far, no one in the stores have heard of the EP 00 Shell brand. I opened the crankcase and it looks like a really thick oily grease inside. I'm not quite sure how I'm supposed to fill to the crankcase hole because it doesn't appear that it will flow. If I went with 90 wt. oil, could I fill up the crankcase to "top it off" and mix it with what appears to be the EP 00 grease?

Wierd....if EP 00 is semifluid, how the heck can I check the level of the product in the bottom of the chain case cover? It's supposed to be level with the bolt hole. Wouldn't it fly up along all the edges and just stick to the surfaces? It seems that I would need a grease gun to inject it into the bolt hole opening. I'm not sure if EP 00 grease is compatible with 90 wt. gear oil so they could be mixed interchangeably.

My tiller is similar but filled with gear oil. If it was filled with gear checking the level makes sense. Do not mix gear oil and grease. Since grease is in the case already you can add a little if it appears to have any leaking through externally. Otherwise I would leave it alone.
