I have a question for you 2210 and 2305 owners. I am considering buying a compact tractor and my dealer tells me a 2305 would be the tractor for my needs. My question is how good of a job dose the 2210 or 2305 do at running a roto tiller? I would be tilling 2 different 1/2 acre gardens. I will also be getting a front end loader as I do lawn work also. I am thinking I should wait for the 2320 that is due out in the spring. Your input about your experinces would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for any info !

I have a 2210 on which I use a Rotomec 50" tiller. Makes short work of tilling my 40X80 foot garden in spring and fall.

Soil conditions vary widely so your experience may differ from mine but I have been very happy with the performance of my tiller on my 22210.

I'm using a Frontier 50" tiller. I've never seen such wonderfully mixed and aerated soil. the 2210 has plenty of power for the job. tips; use low gear and if going downhill feather the brakes a little to keep your ground speed steady. go at a slow steady creep. I can't imagine the model of tractor making any difference in the results, just in the size/weight of the tiller you want to use. for your needs I'd say the 2210/2305 would be perfect. The 2210 is a tough machine for small loader jobs too and it can dig. I once dug a hole big enough to swallow a car to fill with concreete debris.

Will you be mowing your lawn with it?
I looked at the 2520 and specs on the 2320 before purchasing my 2305. They are a larger frame and the tires are 5" taller. That wasn't a benefit to me. The 2320 is the same (24) hp as the 2305, so not a hp issue. They also come with the same 200 cx loader.
They do have 3 point position control (not on 2305) and cruise control standard (optional on the 2305) which could be useful in a large garden. Interestingly enough, the 2320 does not have a R1 tire option which I would use for tilling.
I think the 2305 is a good choice unless you need the larger frame. I also didn't like that the 2350 ground speed in reverse was only 5 mph. I HATE slow reverse.
Not knocking the 2320 or 2520, they are more tractor by far than the 2305. But they are also more money, heavier, larger turning radius, etc...
You get the idea, its all about compromise.

I hope we don't get into another tire discussion for roto-tilling. we're talking about FOUR WHEEL DRIVE machines here. I think the only difference tires make in a dry garden would be how much dirt may stick in the tread. the tiller does push so all the tractor is doing is powering/steadying the tiller and steering.

That depends on the tiller. Some rotate counter to the direction of travel, presumably yielding a better till.

I will not be mowing with it as I have a 757 zero turn and also a small lawn tractor. I will be using it for mulching, tilling, areateing, and maybe sometime down the road, cash permitting a overseeder. I will get the industrial type tires, for my needs I think they would suit me the best. I don't want to get too small a tractor for the job but again I don't want one thats too big also. Thats why I was considering the 2320. My friend has a 2210 and he really likes it, but only has a loader and box blade so he couldn't offer any info as to it handeling a tiller or not.

good point Cliff. however my experience with counter-rotating tillers says they don't work, they don't chop up debris and mulch.
BCNU, the 2210 is more than enough tractor for a tiller. small and manueverable too. I don't know what JD is asking for the 2320, if the difference in price is minor and you need bigger tires go for it but I can't imagine the 2320 being much more capable than the 2210.

If you are considering running an overseeder, look carefully at the specs of the smaller units. From my limited research, you wouldn't want anything smaller than the 2320. The 3000 series would be better suited. The 2305/2210 would handle everything else you described with no troubles.

I use a 52" woods tiller on my 2210. It does the job and then some. I use it with the bucket for front weight though in lieu of the bucket you could just add front weights but in my experience front weight is neccessary. I tilled a new garden area that had a big pile of manure in the middle which due to the rain was real sloppy. The tractor was sunk to the axles but with 4WD moved right though it.
