Yanmar YM155D and an Allis Chalmers 120 hp
Am going to start looking for a tiller for my 155D. Since this thing is only rated at about 15hp or so, am wondering what the maximum tiller size would be. Heck, even for other implements like a box blade or scraper blade.

Would also like to know what would be considered a fair price for a used tiller in the size I would need. Not used to dealing with implements in the size this thing will need.

And if any of the dealers on here have any used ones, let me know a price and shipping. I am in the 80751 area code

Thanks to all in here. I have been enjoying tremendously this site. Alot of great people.

Dennis, I have a 48 iinch Yanmar tiller on my 16HP PTO rated Iseki 4x4 (engine 19HP). I assume your Yanmar has a 15HP engine rating being US version? My tractor turns a 48-inch just fine, hasn't stopped the tractor yet, although when I accidently put the PTO in the 4th speed (1000 rpm I think) and had the depth set too agressive, the tractor let me know it was working hard and threw dirt everywhere. My tractor weighs about 2000-lbs and could still use some extra weight up front to level it out with the tiller on back during transport. I wouldn't go larger than a 48 inch, and probably would look for a 42 inch if I were you.

Ask around for an 'RS1100' tiller (or similar sized)...it's about 42" wide, uses the correct Cat 0-1, 2PH and works like a dog. They usually go for about a $100. a foot used.

Whatever you find or decide on, make sure it has good tines, correct universal PTO adapter, outrigger wheels and lift arms.

I did some research as well, and you pretty much confirmed what little I was able to find on the matter. Problem is, in this area, the smaller tillers are pretty rare. And tillers period are not easy to find. There arent many small acreage places in this part of the state, though there are getting to be more and more about 100 miles to the south or the same distance to the west.

I am afraid its going to take some finding to locate one that will fit my tractor. Fortunately I have plenty of time till spring. I do have a 2 bottom plow that should work ok on this beast as long as I keep the depth reasonable. Bottom end torc on this should be plenty. In the meantime I guess I go on the great tiller search. :) Thanks

Thanks for the reply. That cost you mention sounds about right. Will try looking for the model you mention and size. This area is going to be hard to find the small ones. We have a monthly farm equipment auction 60 miles to the south of us. Except in Dec through Feb. I think they do have one last one for the year in November. I might get lucky. Still have plenty of time anyway.

Thanks

I see you are in NE Colorado. How far are you from the I-80 corridor? Could you go down to a trucking terminal along I80 and pick up one shipped on a pallet?

Sacramento Tractors (sactotractors . com) has used Yanmar 4 ft tillers, and probably smaller, for $400. (Photo). I expect they could ship one. A lot of stuff for Nevada, Utah, and east along the I80 corridor comes out of Sacramento.

I bought my Howse implements there. I found a good price and a pleasant transaction. I'm presently trying to decide if I should get one of their tillers. I've gone back to look at the tillers several times.

This firm recently changed their business model and no longer handles what I think were VN refurbs. They always were good on warranties, but I suspect that was killing them. Now there is always someone working on a painting project when I go in. (And the ones they are preparing to paint already look better than my unrestored rig. :D ) They now advertise on Craigslist/Sacramento "This tractor is imported directly from Japan and repainted in America."

I don't know of any other firm handling Yanmars (and Yanmar tillers) around here. And I don't know if the shipping to send one that far to you would be reasonable. Have you gotten stuff in via truck freight like this before?

Hey CA, I am about 40 miles south of I-80. Not sure where the nearest terminal would be. The closest town along 80 would be Sidney, Nebraska. I guess about 60 or so miles to the NW of us. Would imagine they have a terminal there. Not a big town but does have some major businesses there. Cabella's has their headquarters there and their biggest store. One of my favorite places to visit when I am in the area.

Will check that link for Sacremento tractors that you put in. Considering the difficulty of finding a small tiller around here, that might just be my only option. A 42 inch would fit on a pallet easily. I am guessing maybe 140 to 160.00 for shipping if I can pick it up in Sidney. That might just work.
Thanks for posting that info, CA

I have had stuff truck shipped to me before and shipped stuff myself, so can guestimate it fairly close.

Thanks again
Dennis

You also might check with Ernie, Ernie's imports as I know he has a number of tillers all the time and I also know he has Yanmar's quick mount hitch ( takes care of the pto shaft issue for being a truely quick mount) for some of these. Ernie is also one of the good guys to deal with. Just a suggestion.

Hey Mickey, you mention something about the PTO shaft issue? Could you clarify that for me or point me to the discussion of it. Thanks

I ran a 42" tiller off of my old 155d many times. Before I knew better, I would run it off of the high PTO range (my 155 only had 2 ranges, 540 & 920ish). I never had a problem even when tilling clay.

The PTO shaft on my 155 was the standard US PTO size.
