I have an old Miller dialarc 250 with high frequency that I bought new in 1980. I used it less than 30 minutes and the cooling fan started to make noise. Due to my youthfulness I thought the bearings in the motor were bad and did not want to fix it at the time so the machine just sat and I have always used another welder. I have now discovered after 35 years that the bearings were not bad but the fan hub on the armature shaft was loose and was most likely making the noise. You can not tighten that screw with a regular Allen wrench and get it tight. you need an Allen socket with an extension that I will get soon.

When I bought the Machine I bought the foot pedal for the Tig for $120.00. The foot pedal is no longer where I had it stored, and I am looking for another foot pedal. A local Miller dealer called Miller and was told the machine takes a Model RFC23A foot pedal. Millers today price is outrageous I feel. Does anyone know of another source for a foot pedal?

I should not have given you folks a history lesson. Just asked does anyone know where to get a Miller RFC23A foot pedal, or an after market equivalent for an antique welder? Any suggestion will be appreciated.

Thanks Shield-arc, Those folks don't have it and can't build it. They did tell me how to possibly buy one, or else bite the bullet and get it from miller (ouch).

I had been a Welder (shipfitter-pipefitter) aboard the USS Charles R. Ware and The William V. Pratt and also maintenance welder at Ford Motor Company for 25 years. So I do not have the same experience and have not done the variety of work you have done. I would have loved to have worked on the crews of where you worked. I enjoy reading your posts and the sharing of your skills and knowledge. Thanks again

I never had any dealings with that outfit. I think it's the one everybody brags about on Welding Web.

I live right across the bay from Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. I've done several construction projects there.

A lot of the welder repair shops that were around when the RFC's were used can rig up a pedal for you. I see them collecting dust at some of the LWS stores too. Call around and see if a repair house or LWS has a used one laying around. Still cost you $75 I bet. I don't remember the pin out or even how many pins they used but I think they were quite different than what's used today.

yomax4, What is a LWS store? I would guess W is welding and S is supply. I don't know of any repair places around here. Oxygen Service repairs welders and most likely these tig pedals. They want to sell me a new one. I think Miller makes them on demand. They have two on the shelf now. The pedal had two cables one with two pins and the other with three pins, (they were not really pins) they pushed in, then you twist and lock. I have a little time so I am looking, If worse comes to worse I will get one from Miller. Don't really want to though.

Oddly enough, there are two Dialarc 250 HF's for sale in my area and although they are both equipped with tig torches, they lack or are missing foot pedals.
