Good news. Just went to see orthopedic hand surgeon. He says it looks real good. No surgery required, no amputation required. It will live. What a relief.

Note to OP: When you are outside during cold weather, keep checking your thumb often so you don't freeze it. The circulation will not be near what it use to be and will get very cold very quickly. I have injured fingers and ended up having to use mittens many times during cold weather.

I did that years ago when I was building my porch using rough cut Cherry, I was re-sawing, joining, plaining and shaping it to make waynes coat.
It took close to 1-1/2 years to finish and while ripping the last piece with gloves on (it was cold out) I ran my index finger into the blade.
The gloves gave me a false sense of security!
I was so mad at myself for a split second of careless ness.

I am almost afraid to ask.... what was the result? Do you still have 4 fingers on that hand or just 3, or somewhere in between?

I still have all 4 fingers but my left index is a bit narrow and the joint is locked up.
