The scanner will clear the codes only, disconnecting the battery resets the computers adaptive strategy. It has the ability to learn and adjust as mechanical isues slowly progress. Cleaning the throtle will be a drastic change in performance as the computer see's it.

Don't disconnect the battery cable. Like Dave said you would loose all of the adaptive strategy, the thing will run like crap.

I think you should reset the computer by removing battery power and let the computer readjust settings. Your owners manual may actually tell you to do this, I allso took it as the other poster was thinking along the same line too.

Disconnecting the battery should clear the "soft codes", like a CEL. Sometimes it doesn't take out recurring hard codes, like PCM issues.

Since you have a GM and if you pull the battery cable probably have a radio that you have to enter a Security code to get it working. You don't really want to pull a battery cable on a OBDII vehicle. I even hook up a jump and carry when I change the battery in one.

I think you got it Soundguy. I did the same thing with my 5.3, at similar mileage.

The CE light will light immediately after the cleaning. If you did not have any codes prior, there is nothing wrong, and it will either go out after a while or you can reset with a code reader (thats what I've done).

First time I did this service, I got timid about removing the TB from the manifold, so I cleaned it real well and let it dry for a couple of hours. Well all of the fumes must not have dissipated, becasue when I started it, the truck coughed and farted so much that I assumed the worst. Smoothed out after a minute and never had a bit of trouble. Got smart and removed the TB for the next time!

as a matter of fact.. when i replaced the radio in this vehicle last year with a factory one.. i DID have to do some sort of button pushing contest to get it to work... :)

my 98 dodge did that. first few seconds I was waiting for lift off.. :)

this one coughed for about 1/3 a second then went to 90-95% normal... but DID set the CE light.

was that from a mixture problem? or?
