NPSM, JIC, and ORB are the only common fittings you will find on your tractor that requires NO sealant.
And ORFS (O-ring face seal)? JD likes to use those...

Loctite 545 is ok, but I'd rather use 567 (high temp) on hydraulic threads. But the reason tapes/dopes have teflon IS to lubricate threads that are tapered so they can be tightened to an 'interference' fit. (akin to 'shrink' or 'pressed' fit)
As a qualified machinist, I get it when a pipefitter tells me NPT fittings can still leak. Thread roots and crowns are not consistently formed/shaped, so there can be a flow path at the major dia of the female thread or the minor dia of the male thread, among others. But Teflon has no business there. Its slipperyness detracts from actually sealing, and that's why only NPT tapes/dopes contain it and as an assembly aid. As a 'dope' I can imagine it being dissolved by hot oil or similar.
I'm old school enough that I grease vs 'goop' fiber gaskets, spray head gaskets with alum paint or smear anti-seize, and btw I don't use glue on tape.My 'old ways' still means all caustic, high temp, or fuel (NPTF) fittings get old-fashioned Permatex No 2 Non-Hardening, (read the label) my standard for all fuel, hydro or coolant, quenching, or bluing tank etc 'pipe work'.
Hate to admit I laugh when guys put dope on flared, JIC, or compression fittings. Just messy, it can be. Worst threads I've dealt with in a long time are those on TSC's made-up hoses. I trashed several HFT-quality 12" adjustable wrenches plumbing the FEL added to my JD using 16" johnson bars. I had two of ten connections leak, but had to use a 15" adj and 18" pipe wrench with cheaters to do well on the last half of 'em.
btw, Happiness is having a Parker store 10 min away from your shop.![]()
