And another one!. This time it's the President of the Ontario progressive conservative party. Just saw it on the news.

Turns out there is a lot of behind the scenes political and power manoeuvring. Tried and convicted by a media reporter without names, no proof, just hearsay. Have to ask why now 10 years after, this is loudly announced four months prior to the election . Was this orchestrated by liberals planted inside the PC party, the Liberal Party was responsable ? The so called 努ronged woman happens to be the lessi partner of the reporter who 澱roke the story. Or was it an internal power struggle inside the PC party ? To thier credit Patric Brown was a charmless gorm with no charisma in the media or at events . Btw where did all the women, investigation and smear campaign disappear to after the US election?

Guess it is chip on my shoulder... take away the title but still have the responsibilities which is in direct opposition to the company handbook...
Here's my chip, I work in a very technical field and I've heard female and only employees say, "I'm not technical", when talking about their projects. Straight out admit they can't follow the discussion about their particular field. I've never heard a male employee say it, but in all fairness, i've known some male co-workers, that should just go ahead and admit they can't keep up with either, but are probably afraid they may get demoted or fired.

I think it's about time MEN started a campaign to get equal rights for men.

That is where it is headed but first all these men who behaved badly are making it rough for every male out there. To the point I am glad I am not a young white male getting into a corporation. I would go into my own bisiness. White males are on the low end of the totem pole as far as promotions and equal rights going forward or even now in many places. What is wrong with equality for ALL?

Spot on goe.

Not new, as I recall Reverse Discrimination coming up in HS Sociology, decades ago, What I hadn't realized is how blatantly it had been applied. The wiki link has some references to US court cases concerning college admissions.

Reverse discrimination - Wikipedia

It's just another form of discrimination. While I'm definitely no legal scholar, it does have me scratching my head about legality.

The Ends Justifies Means is one way to sum up how this has been sold, post 1970.

What I do find "interesting" (read disturbing) is that wiki article concludes that since the incidence of reporting is allegedly low, then Reverse Discrimination rarely happens. If we used that same logic, then there would be no #MeToo now.

Went to see if Discrimination had been "updated" since I last undertood the def'n:

Discrimination | Define Discrimination at Dictionary.com

"treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit:
racial and religious intolerance and discrimination."

Reverse or not, sure smells like discrimination to me.....

What we need is all reference to race, gender, age, & religion eliminated from ALL government & business forms & records.

It is not that rare, at least in my experience; seems that not everyone is inclined to file suit. I recall back in the 80's and 90's employers were stretching to hire women and minorities. I recall talking to some Uranium miners in New Mexico; they alleged that management busted their butts to hire women to work in the mines, but for the most part, they couldn't do the heavy work, so they were all gravitating to the softer jobs...jobs that were traditionally reserved for the older miners who had paid their dues; some who had injuries and disabilities from years of working in the mines. They were very bitter, to say the least.

A well placed Cdn Gov't official once explained the staffing system to me.

Most departments have a staff quota of sorts.
His department was traditionally male.
Hiring a female gave him a 1/2 credit as did a handicapped person.
Also in some cases also did hiring an aboriginal.
Being in Canada bilingualism also counted.

So if in order to complete a 6 staff department he hired a handicapped female he would then grow his staff from not 5-6 but take it to 7.

Well he hired a bilingual female in a male dominated area.
She got pregnant, took parental leave, worked only 4 days/wk (single parent) and played **** with the system.
No longer could staff meetings be held on Fridays and so his staff had to travel back for Thursday meetings thus completely disorganizing everybody's schedules.
The staff were aviation inspectors that by definition had to travel extensively to do site inspections.

Gotta say that all the males in that department sure felt discriminated.

Being “forced” to hire a woman or someone of a different race is clear cut discrimination. Hire the best person for the job.

I know that feeling of having to rearrange your schedule because of a Mom, single or otherwise. Now if it wasn't that the majority of "Mothering" was performed by women, then we be having a different discussion using different gender specific pronouns. However I'm guilty of saying something like, 'aren't your children old enough able to care for them self yet, i mean what the heck they're 21', and receiving a busted look from that person.

A Male can have a problem ? Who is starting these crazy rumours ? ;)

Started long ago. One of the very best managers I ever worked for had resigned from reasonably high-level govt job not long before I was working for her in the private sector. I remember her describing a Sr. Admin running around the office screeching about how she couldn't possibly be allowed to resign Right Then, as she had just got the "Genders Balanced" for an upcoming conference.

Being a plain-spoken lady from the Rock (Nfld), my buddy then loudly asked her (in front of a very high-level official) "What the _____ are you talking about ? Are we supposed to be _______ing all weekend ?".

Yeah, I miss working with her, and No, she didn't fit-in to a govt job any better than I did.....

Started with govt, and got extended into the private sector with either direct legislation, or carrot/stick contract clauses (must have xy% minority employees on staff, to bid).

I don't have an issue with anybody competing directly on a job. Different story, if the playing field has a permanent tilt.

Some women (and men) can't accomplish certain physical tasks - you shouldn't get a "special" promotion because of that.

Discrimination has many forms. Some can't be openly discussed in the pc environment of today.

A lot of the rules were changed to accommodate women and minorities. Our Highway patrol used to have a height, weight and physical ability requirement, but it eliminated almost all women and Hispanics...so they changed it...or so I'm told.

Affirmative action shouldn't just benefit blacks. It should help all the groups that have been discriminated against. Like Jews should get into college before Germans, and women should get in before men, gay people before straight, fat before thin. But you can't do that, cause if you did, the only people in college would be fat, black, Jewish, lesbians. And who wants that? I mean there's more to college than just softball!

It's changed here too. My boss's daughter is likely to end up on our provincial force, and I'm pretty sure she doesn't top 100#, even all tac'd out.

Back when, our cops were expected to be able to fight their way into and out of any bar, using nothing more than batons. If that. And, I'm not that old.... not talking Keystone Cops era :)

So, it's changed the dynamic on the street here a bit, IMO. Not sure how much general confidence (police force) there is in Tasers, but it does seem to me that many interactions that were addressed 30+ years ago here with direct physical action often seem to quickly escalate to a civilian getting shot today. Our police will encounter civilians with (legal or otherwise) guns, but the occurrence is relatively low compared to US streets.

Can't remember the last time I saw a tonfa stick (baton) here, with regular patrol. Another sign of getting old ?

I used to say, (when I was working back then), people should come to work...do their jobs and leave the baggage at home. If you can't do the job you should not be in that position and others should not have to pick up the slack for the ones who won't or can't. Reverse discrimination is alive and well.

"Back when, our cops were expected to be able to fight their way into and out of any bar, using nothing more than batons. "

Seems that today they'd simply shoot their way in and out and the courts would support them.

all the cop has to say is “they feared for their life”. The statement is a license to do what ever they want .
