Thoughts on 3pt log splitters?

/ Thoughts on 3pt log splitters? #141
I found a 3pt log splitter, removed the cylinder and beam from the support frame and bolted on 2 6" pieces of "C" channel on the 'underside' of the beam. I hang this splitter from my pallet forks. I built this to split 5' Maple rounds that a local tree trimmer cut up. I stood the rounds up on end (I had to use the tractor to do that) -- then drove up and lowered the splitter wedge to the top of the round and hit the remotes. The knife split the round and it busted apart into 2 halves. Since then, I've used this inverted splitter to split large and small pieces. It's slow and maneuvering the tractor to get lined up takes time, but it comes in handy for large jobs which come up now and then.

I bought this tractor for $1,500 dollars, it does a GREAT job running my 3 point splitter and just sips diesel so slooowly,

I haven't had to fix anything on the tractor; it just keeps on keeping on! And it's really nice to be able to easily move my splitter wherever I want.

Also with a hitch on the front, it's easy to move trailers too.

Can you post a picture of your front hitch?

Is it hydraulically controlled?

It's not a 3 point hitch, that's not needed for moving trailers or wagons. It's just a regular trailer hitch.

I use a three point hitch wood splitter on a JD tractor. I position my 24 inch long rounds in rows ready to roll on the hydraulic wood lift, easy to move the tractor a few feet forward for the next row etc. I jury rigged (extended back) the tractor remote controls to use while standing at the splitter. On this splitter the wood block does not move as the splitter wedge is on the cylinder. On very large blocks one can begin shaving on the side and work it down to size. This saves a lot of work having to move large chunks for the next split. With the log lift raised to horizontal position, this serves as a table, easy to position the large chunks for the next splits. 90% of my firewood is +30 inch diameter.
