I hate seeing things like this ona site where new owners might get the idea that operating a TBL like that is a good idea. Even if a larger machine was used to do the excavating and the little guy was brought in just to stage the video this is still a bad idea.

You got it wrong. The idea is to tell them this is a no no. The bad idea is to just let them see it on Youtube and assume it's OK to operate it this way.

Henri, I get the idea of discussion about the unsafe operation as long as it accompanies such a video. Your post of the video didn't say - "this is really a bad idea." I've learned that common sense isn't so common - the video illustrates that very well. I know that's your point but not everyone will.

I suppose it is the old industrial arts teacher in me - I much prefer to show someone the right way to operate equipment. I also prefer to show them how to use the right tool for the job. Videos like this don't do either. Too often a negative example that doesn't show the consequences and teaches wrong operation and use of the wrong tool for a job. This video doesn't show the tractor turn over or the equipment failure that often follows such cavalier regard for safety and abuse of equipment.

Thanks for letting me ramble a bit.

Ted, I understand what your saying and I agree. But you are also making my point. That's the whole idea. Anyone that will view and read this tread should understand the stupidity of the video. If they don't, well..... Nuff said!

Many times I think just like you. No natural selection in the human race. Then we have people who want to breed with those who don't want to thrive. No where else in nature.

I know it is a probably a little harsh and bad thinking but as long as there is no victim, "so be it" as you say.

the next question I guess I would ask is: Was this rented or borrowed equipment?

He didn't get out... he's still in the hole with the tractor on top of him and the stump on top of the tractor. Last I heard, they were calling in a wood carver to turn the stump into a nice marker.

It’s those idiots that make the feds constantly impose new safety mandates making our equipment less enjoyable to use. They also jump on TBN every so often complaining about the poor quality of their tractor after the oil pump cavitates and the engine locks up…

I'm with milkman636 worried about oil levels etc. That looks very similar to an oak stump I tried to remove that was wrapped around rocks and would not budge.
At least I had the sense to stop and call in a big backhoe to finish the job. Looks like he will need something just to get him, and the tractor out of the hole.
Had to look at the video a second time couldn't stop shaking my head. :duh:
