How many of you have your grandchildren open those supposedly "child proof" caps that are adult proof? Then just leave the caps sitting loosely on top.

Stupid government.

Our pharmacy has regular caps as an option that we have to sign for, and our over the counter bottles have been modified long ago to be regular and we just swap them out onto the new bottle. But to answer your question, yes. ALL of our grandkids could easily open any "childproof" bottle at 5-6 years of age I am sure.

Our pharmacy is set up so that once you request the regular caps they will always supply them for prescriptions. I always save the caps when a bottle becomes empty so that I have spares when one shows up with the wrong cap.
We have one cat who has managed to open a "child proof" cap while playing with a bottle so they certainly aren't that secure.

Usually we have to ask the grandkids to open the bottles for us! They are much faster / better at it!

Like many supposedly good ideas that run smack dab into the law of unintended consequences. The "child proof cap" seems to thwart more seniors than it does children. And just who needs more drugs than anyone? Yep, it is seniors for sure.

I told them at the pharmacy that there wasn't anyone in my family younger than 70; so would they please omit the child-proof caps? They did, but I have to sign a release every time I pick up a new prescription.

The bottles I’ve seen have threads on the top of the cap and you can screw them on upside down to bypass the lock.

Just another fine government regulation that solved nothing. As stated by others, kids can usually get the lids off faster than adults can.

Yep. That's what I did when I had my hand in a cast for a couple months last fall. I had my wife open them once, then I turned the caps over. No lock on the opposite side. I'm kinda surprised no one else has mentioned that.

My pharmacy has a cap that the top is for us (older) and the child proof on the other end. I had to sign one time for these years ago.

The caps on the pill bottles supplied by my pharmacy are dual use caps. One side is "Adult Proof", the other side is a standard screw on cap.

I have a fifty/ fifty chance of getting one if those bottles though. They sometimes use prefilled 90 day supplies of my maintenance meds from their supplier, so those only have the adult proof caps. To get around this though, I refill the pharmacy supplied bottles with the corresponding medication.

I can handle the child proof caps for the time being. My problem is that the package of desiccant in the bottle makes it difficult to shake out just one pill. When I throw the desiccant away I always wonder whether a little moisture absorption decreases the effectiveness of the pills.

My meds come with two way caps - thank goodness. Some mornings the 'ol hands are pretty cramped and even the "adult" caps can be difficult.

Temporary fix - run my hands under warm water for half a minute. Limbers things up considerably.

Sort of like removing the lid on the jam jar.
