I don't know if anyone else will think this was cool, but I really did. Yesterday I was lucky enough to attend a Rotary lunch with a retired 4 star general (Barry McCaffery), a retired 4 star admiral (Tom Hayward), two retired 2 star admirals (Herb Bridge and Bill Center) and a Congressional Metal of Honor Winner (Col. Bruce Crandall). Talk about a group who has served our country! I was never in the military. So, I haven't had the chance to be in the same room as that many general officers at one time. I was honored to be there. Clearly, I was impressed and wanted to share it.

I was thrilled at McCaffrey's performance as a failed drug czar. But I'm glad you enjoyed your Rotary lunch.

Making it to the rank of General takes discipline, commitment and a great work ethic It is a VERY impressive feat no doubt. But the Medal of Honor is something you can not strive to obtain in your career. It requires something very special within that person that very few people posess.
You were in the company of a TRUE American Hero. ( I am jealous... lol.)

BTW- Col. Crandall was portrayed by Greg Kinnear in the movie "We Were Soldiers"

What a gentleman and very humble considering the feats he has performed for our country.

I was never in the military. So, I haven't had the chance to be in the same room as that many general officers at one time.

I was in the military, and yet I have never been in the room with that much rank. I think the highest I ever saw was a one-star.

The only "star" that I ever saw up close wandered into my clinic in Basra with a raging ear infection.

An injection of antibiotics was called for and while I had the fellow bent over administering the shot, he asked....

"...bet you never saw an admiral up this close before eh?"

I told him...

"....from my angle, Sir, it's the same old view..."

And that was MY brush with greatness....
